  • Minimum wage needs to be raised...

A person living alone in Washington, D.C., must earn $13.68 an hour to make ends meet, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Living Wage Calculator With one child, that number jumps to $26.37. In New York City, an adult must earn $12.75 an hour to make a living wage. In Chicago, it's $10.50 an hour and in San Francisco, $12.83. To live in our very own Kansas City, you need to make $11.50. Raising the minimum wage means minimum wage workers have more money to expend which means more money ripples throughout the economy as minimum wage employees are able to spend more If these minimum wage employees are spending more, then businesses are earning more and need to hire more employees to keep up with the increased sales from the minimum wage employees who are buying more.

  • No Wage Raise

More money doesn't necessarily mean more things. If minimum wage increases, businesses will have to charge more to pay their employees more, and we'll end up right where we were. Look at Chipotle in San Francisco, burritos are 10% more expensive than before the minimum wage hike. As payment goes up, cost goes up. If we still had 1950's wages, we'd still have 1950's prices on goods. That's how economics work.
