Law enforcement is out of control today. Officers know that people will believe the officer, just because they are wearing a badge. They will do whatever they want, even if that means killing people, just because they know that they are not held accountable. If nothing ever changes, innocent people will continue to be killed.
The officer that killed Philando Castile should definitely be charged. He shot a man who was only about to give the officer his identification as it was requested of him. He informed the officer he had a license to carry just as one should and he was still killed anyway for no apparent reason.
In my opinion, the evidence in the case of Philando Castile indicates that the officer exercised lethal force unnecessarily. At the very least, the officer should stand trial, and all available evidence should be allowed to come to light. The trial would also open a larger conversation on the abuse of police authority in the U.S.
Yes, the officer that killed Philando Castile should be charged. County Attorney Choi said he believes that “no reasonable officer, knowing, hearing, or seeing what Yanez did, would’ve used deadly force under those circumstances.” Castile will become the latest law enforcement official to be charged in connection with the death of an unarmed black man.
