Should the Roman people have rebelled against Nero and Caligula?

  • Yes: The Romans Should Have Rebelled Against Nero and Caligula

Both Nero and Caligula were unsavory characters, to say the least. Caligula demanded worship as though he were an actual god king, and was seen as a tyrant, given to hastily killing his opponents. Nero engaged in matricide, or the murder of his mother, potentially to advance his political career. These men were morally unfit for positions of leadership, to put it mildly, and rebellion was the just expression of outrage to their violent decadence.

  • Nero And Caligula

I personally think that Nero and Caligula were two of Rome's worst emperors. They both bankrupted Rome's economy, killed people unjustly, and abused there power. Nero used his power to take property and wealth from senators and citizens. Caligula took money from Rome to build his horse a palace. These are tyrannical and economically unstable actions. The Roman people definitely needed to rebel against these terrible rulers.

  • Yes, it might have done something.

Revolution was probably not the way of the world way back then, but it would have been a good idea when those repressive emperors were in power. With enough rebellion from the people, perhaps Roman history would have taken a whole different turn and the Empire would have either lasted longer or transformed sooner.

  • no they should not have

No, they should not of rebelled against these leaders. Even though they were not the best leaders, you should not rebel against the person that is doing what they can to run your country to the best that they can. The Romans had a lot go wrong all at once.
