Should the U.S. government be able to detain suspected terrorists?

  • What if he was planning something.

What if a man, or a possible terrorist was being watched by the Government and the government was sure he was planning something but the 75% of the people who said no to this debate made it so the government could not detain him. This possible terrorist then blows up a building or something. I know the government does stupid things sometimes, but i believe the government doesn't want another 9/11 happening again. So they take the necessary precautions to protect this nation. So I say that the government can do whatever they wish with suspected terrorist's or detainee's.

  • Why Cant We?

Of course, we should be able to detain suspected terrorist because it wouldn't even matter if they were not terrorizing the Americans, they spread terror around the world. This could be very good mainly because even if they were not terrorist, if they are suspected of terrorist activities, they should be detained until they at least do a background check.

  • He is a terrorist!

Terrorist are terrorist just go ahead and kill them! They are not worth a pretty penny in my book. The are worthless ruthless killers who deserve to be blown up by 20 C4 bombs and napalm! This note is coming from a Texan YEE YEE Country Gone Country Hee Haw!

  • Why are they suspected???????

First they are suspected terrorist they haven’t blown up a building or anything on that scale. They are suspected terrorist actual murders get a fair trial even getting the chance to plead guilty and sometimes get a reduced sentence. The fear of terrorism for the united states was 911 made by people of middle eastern descent. Innocent muslim that are american citizens are discriminated against or attacked because the assumption of they could possibly be a terrorist. Terrorism is not just be people of middle eastern descent there have been cases of white american citizens terrorists, like Timothy McVeigh who detonated a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Killing 173 or more people, it wasn’t as bad as 9/11 where 2977 people died including hijackers
Second As noted, the provisions of the Bill of Rights now applicable to the States contain basic guarantees of a fair trial— right to counsel, right to speedy and public trial, right to be free from use of unlawfully seized evidence and unlawfully obtained confessions, and the like. But this does not exhaust the requirements of fairness. "Due process of law requires that the proceedings shall be fair, but fairness is a relative, not an absolute concept… What is fair in one set of circumstances may be an act of tyranny in others."1017 Conversely, "as applied to a criminal trial, denial of due process is the failure to observe that fundamental fairness essential to the very concept of justice. In order to declare a denial of it . . . [the Court] must find that the absence of that fairness fatally infected the trial; the acts complained of must be of such quality as necessarily prevents a fair trial.”

  • What? 50% of people are insane here! Guess which one.

K first of all, read the word suspected, that's right suspected. That mean's not guilty just a possible terrorist. Now, you are supporting the fact that they can detain people for THINKING they're terrorists? Second, let me tell you something RACIAL PROFILING, people look at the skin colour maybe even clothing and judge. Not to pull names out but Islamiphobia, is a phobia of muslims, probably caused by people racial profiling us as terrorists, I'm muslim I don't wanna be detained.

  • Terrorists are almost like murders, but murders get a fair trial.

Terrorists and murderers are beings that have harmed one or more human beings. But if a murderer is a US citizen, they get the chance to prove their innocence and be informed of the charges against them. A terrorist gets picked up and sent to G-Bay without knowledge of what they are truly being charged with, and no chance to defend themselves.

  • What defines a terrorist?

In the bill of rights it is stated everyone has the right to a fair trail. So, for one this is unconstituional what is being curently done in guantonamo. So say the govenment somehow manages to declare that everyone who dosen't support Obama is a terrorist. What then? All those newly found "terrorists" don't get a trail. That is what we cant have happening.

  • Everyone deserves a fair day in court.

In the Bill of Rights it is stated everyone has the right to a fair trial. Therefore terrorist suspects should have a fair trial as well. Who's to say who's a terrorist? What if one day the government decided to classify everyone that doesn't support Obama as a terrorist? Then all those people do not get trials. My example I know is an extreme case, but hopefully it will paint a picture in your mind about the extent of loop holes that exist in the reasoning of being able to take away the right to a fair trial.
