  • Other countries should try to figure there own problems out.

Should the US stop helping poor countries? I think we should because we help a lot a countries but never get anything back. That's one reason why we are in so much debt is because we help to much. Let's have a country who's not in a lot of debt help too. They depend on America too much and every thing that goes on in a country we have to go save them because they don't want to do anything about it. That's why I think we should stop helping.

  • We need to help ourselves first .

Yes we need to stop helping out. We are nearly $17 trillion in debt. That money needs to go towards American issues. There are starving people in America that need out help. Other countries are not the United States' problem. If they are destined to fail let them fail. We don't need to be handing out money we don't even have. And sure there is other places where spending needs to be cut and I believe this is one of them. Sure it's bad for the countries and people who die but that can't be our problem. We're like a kid in a pet shop, just cause it looks like all those puppies need a home we ca t afford to take care of all of them. We need to take care of this country first or we will be bound for failure. Military takes up a large part of the budget but can you put a price on freedom?
    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • Yes

We in the America have our own problems as it is. We have debt climbing to high it is going up and over 16 trillion dollars but we do not stop spending. Some may think we were doing fine, but were not people are losing jobs because the government keeps sending jobs to other countries to help out the poor in those countries. But I say start with you own country first.

  • America needs to think of herself first

We need to put America first, we are almost $17 trillion in debt, have a high poverty rate, and we are facing a fiscal crisis where we don't have enough money to cover for ourselves as it is. I'd rather see my hard earned tax dollars go to help an American out instead of some other foreign country that hates us as it is, such as North Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and most other middle eastern countries. We may only give .19% of our GDP but that can for a better cause, such as paying of part of our national debt instead of helping an unwilling country.

  • We need to improve our country first.

We need to help ourselves before we help other countries. Our debt has grown to around 17 trillion in the last couple years and we don't have money to spare for other countries if we want this to start declining. We also have a debt of about 8%. I believe we should help our struggling and starving people before we help another countries. That may sound greedy but if we're going to get out of debt we need to help ourselves first.

  • Yes.

Helping poor countries is never a job that should be allotted to a country, never mind a country that's so in debt it can't even finance it's own programs. While it is laudable to help the poor, it is far less so to have the government rob people with guns and then use the stole goods to help poor countries. And like I said in the beginning, the United States can't even keep itself in order, and a country's first priority should be itself.

  • You cant give what you dont have

Im gonna keep this short. We are broke so if we give money to country "A" we have to borrow it from country "B" (probably China) then pay back all the money plus interest. Plus if you look at alot of these so called poor countries they have a positive bank account. I understand its political but everyone knows you cant buy loyalty they take our money and screw us over. How long was Osama hiding next to Pakastans west point while we pay them to help us look and rebuild there infrastructor while ours crumbles. What a joke

  • Anonymos

I don't entirely disagree with it, but I think America has to take a step back and help herself before she helps others.

  • Stop spending on foreign aid

I feel like we don't have the assets right now to help other countries when we need to be helping ourselves. We have trillions of dollars in debt, lots of people in poverty, and a high unemployment rate. I know things are way worse in other countries, but those countries could be helping themselves and their people because that isn't our job. We need to help our own people first. Also, most of these countries don't appreciate the help we are giving them.

  • We need to help ourselves first.

Why should we help other countries when ours is bad too? We are constantly forking out money to other countries when we could be using that money to help pay off some of our debt or buying something we need. I think if we continue helping the other countries were going to crash. Once we get back on our feet yes then I think we should help them, but us being so far in debt I don't think we should continue to help them at this point.

  • America, all these riches, all these treasures....

Please you must understand this; In 3rd world countries, people sit on the streets, cold hungry, and bruised, praying someone will give them money for food. These people never had chance, it’s not their fault they were born there. PLZ HELP THEM PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ

  • They need us!!!

All of the other countries that we are helping have ABSOLUTELY nothing which is really sad. Yes we need to help ourselves first but we are okay, All America is doing is going obese most of the other countries are dying because they don't have clean water to drink. The least we can do is save lives. THEY NED US!!!! Yes we are in debt but who really cares? We are saving billions of people lives just by helping them get clean water.

  • We are already in debt

We are already in debt so we dont need to be spending money on other countrys when we are billions of dallars in debt. We dont nedd to spend money on other countrys to keep friendl cause if they can just be using us for our money so therefore we can be even more in debt.

  • Of course not

People in Honduras and other developing countries are suffering from dirty water and infectious diseases that could kill. You don't even need the government to help you could donate old clothes or collects glasses like Corkum a member of the lions club. They don't even have a good education let alone a school. Most kids are doing harsh labor for their families. That is why we need to keep helping developing countries.

  • The poor of our country look pretty well-off when compared to the poor of other countries.

As others have said, we have so many programs, churches, and organizations designed to help those in need here in America. In too many other countries, people are left to fend for themselves and their families with no help from their countrymen - not because their countrymen are unwilling to help, but because they're no better off themselves. Humanity is a family; we have to stop thinking of it as "them" vs "us." We are all created by the same God/Goddess/universal life force, and the circumstances of a person's birth should not cause him/her to be cut off from our empathy.

  • We may have issues but not nearly as many, and most of our issues are wants not needs.

We have the privilege of free education, wealth, and even most of the poor can reach clean water and food. Many of the people in these countries have no education and even if they did a high paying job in America there it could be a very poorly paying job there, so even great educations would give them no chance of living off a job. These countries also suffer from great disease issues. To be continued in comments...

  • Helping is helping.

So we should help our own poor before others? Sure. But we're not. We complain about our poor, tell them to get jobs. Tell them it's their own fault. If you're going to say our country needs help first, do it. Don't just say it. At least this way, some people are getting the help they need.
