Should there be federal restrictions for content on the Internet?

  • Yes we need to control it somehow

Yes there needs to be federal restrictions set up for internet content. For years content on the internet has not really been legislated and that needs to change. If we can't find another way to make it work the federal government does need to step in and set up a system themselves.

  • Only on certain things.

I believe there should only be restrictions for certain things such as how to build bombs and things of the like. These sites can be used by terrorists to kill innocent people such as what happened in Boston. These are the only kinds of content that I feel should be restricted. Opinions should remain to be unrestricted because we should always have the right to freedom of speech.

  • Yes, there should be more rules about what's allowed online.

The Internet is almost a wild west, in that there are very few regulations and ways to police it. I'm someone who would personally like to see more official laws on the books about what's allowed online. While there are obviously some things that aren't allowed, like photos that are abusive to children, there are still a lot of sites that "get by" on freedom of speech, like hate speech sites.

  • There should be federal restrictions for content on the Internet

There should be federal restrictions for content on the Internet but only to restrict the distribution of child pornography and revenge porn. The government should have the harshest penalties possible in place for those caught possessing or distributing these things. These things do not fall under freedom of speech or any other such thought process and should be considered crimes against humanity. The murky underbelly of the Internet needs to be gutted and prosecuted.

  • Yes, if they can

Yes, I would have to agree that there should be federal restrictions for content on the Internet. However, the Internet is a very hard thing to regulate and control. Who owns the Internet? I don't think the United States has much authority over the Internet, but if they can find a way to regulate content, then they should.

  • There should be federal restrictions for the internet.

There should be federal restrictions for the internet, we care about our children, we need to stop this. Basically every time you search something up on the internet, there is always an inappropriate add, we don't want our children (of Canada/U.S.A/or other) to copy such things now do we. We must do something about these non restrictions.

  • Nudity is a big problem.

There are many things on the internet that there shouldn't be. Little kids use the internet, they do not need to see more way then half of the things out there. Plus, I mean come on, even normal ads are extremely annoying, and a big waste of time, and people can/could put viruses in/on them.

  • Give them a little, They take a lot...

If we give them the ability to restrict some content on the Internet, then whats stopping them form censoring anything they want!? Lets say a website is telling people how to build bombs, the government shuts it down. No problem. Until a website comes out saying things about the government. If they can shut down a bomb making website, surely they can shut down a Liberal Website....

  • No Federal Restrictions for the Internet

No, there should not be any federal restrictions for content on the Internet. The Internet is the ultimate democracy. Ideas are exchanged freely and at near instantaneous speeds. Any federal restrictions placed on the Internet would only serve to restrict the free flow of these ideas. Therefore, there should be no such restrictions.

  • There should not be federal restrictions for content on the Internet.

There should not be federal restrictions for content on the Internet. This is the last thing that we need is the government putting down laws on the content of the Internet. The purpose of the Internet is to be free and be able to post whatever you want to and wherever you want to. If we stop doing that then the Internet will not be worth using anymore.

  • No there should not be a restriction.

No the federal government should not be allowed to restrict content from the Internet. People are allowed freedom of speech, and there for have the right to express themselves how they see fit, either in person or online. Either way the Feds are not allowed to decide if something is acceptable or inappropriate.

  • It's not theirs to regulate

It should be up to the owners of websites to make sure nothing illegal is going on their websites. If there is illegal activities it should be up to the rest of the internet to get that site taken down, and if possible get the owner in legal trouble(which could be hard depending on where they are located). No one owns the internet, especially not the U.S. Government and it's not up to them on what goes on on the internet.

  • How can they?

The federal government can only regulate the companies that provide internet to its citizens. The act of restricting certain things on the internet is, what I think, an infringement on our liberties. If I want to educate myself in what ever topic I choose then i should be able to. This would be just another way to keep the citizens of the U.S. In the dark and dumb.

  • Freedom of Speech - Remember?

The government needs to remember the constitution every once in awhile. You CANNOT censor people from anything they want to say. It is the viewer/reader's choice to look at or read what someone posted. Obviously, if anyone posts illegal activity such as murder/rape on the internet, then the government should be able to use it against them in the legal environment; however, you cannot tell people what they cannot say or show. It is our human right.

  • No, definitely not.

The internet is pure information and expression and should not be saddled with biased oversight. Each household is, of course, free to put in place various filters and blocking software to prevent certain content from being easily accessed, but the Federal government should have no hand in overall censorship. Of anything. Ever.

  • No there shouldn't be restrictions

The internet may provide means of access to inappropriate means of entertainment such as Pornography, YouTube, and Information, But there are many ways to just block these websites on someones phone or computer so stop telling people there needs to be a federal restriction when you can easily put on your own means of restriction. The internet provides children with the means of information they may or may not need. It provides entertainment for kids when they have nothing else to do. If your worried about your son/daughter hearing swears or seeing nudity... Grow up there gonna see it and hear it when there older so theirs no point in trying to restrict it now!
