Should there be salary caps in professional sports?

  • There must be a salary cap for players. $100k a year should do.

There's differences between important professions and professional sports:
Important professions (teachers, doctors, scientists, military):
Doers may be happy or suffer, consumers happy.
    Professional sports:
Doers happy, consumers suffer - they put themselves into debt.

In the end, the long-term happiness of masses matters, not the short-term happiness of some particular group of people.

Implementing a salary cap might sound easy, but there are rules:
    > Stadiums should have a capacity of about 1000, not 80000.
    > Sports events must NOT be broadcasted on TV.
    > Sports brands must stop endorsements from athletes.
    > NO sports adverts, either outdoors, on TV or in the Internet.
    Most importantly:
    > People should correct their priorities or America will be heading down the path which leads to the ruins of Rome. Younger generations in China and India put education as TOP priority, and you can see how these two giants grow.

  • Cmon people cmon

There are a lot of homeless people out there that don't have enough money to support their children. Pro athletes are having money stored in their bank accounts for their "children". The children aren't gonna need 200 million dollars. People need to realize that even 1 million to a family can change their lives.

  • What about kneeling

Why should they be paid more than the army or navy when they kneel in the National anthem. It’s not fair if they are paid millions if they kneel to the flag while men and women across the seas die and are paid way less than the stupid athletes although some don’t kneel.

  • Think about it

Some of you may say professional athletes deserve all the money they own because they are risking their health and it's their talent. You are all right, but it's even MORE of a talent to do things like save someone's life from a disease, fight a 50- foot fire for the sake of your community, or to catch a world famous criminal. Compared to disarming a dangerous bomb of destruction, crawling on a field and tackling someone for a leather ball is nothing in comparison to that.

  • Helping People in the World

If player play in the a major league sport for 5 and a half years and are making 5 million a year, than that's 27.5 million just for a rookie. That's enough to cover their children and rent. But what about the poor. Do we really want people on the streets and people living in mansions. I think we should all be equal. Another thing is that there are people in hospitals right now who are suffering of cancer. If every player donated just a little bit to hospitals around the worlds, than maybe doctors can fight off the cancer of their patients. So I think these rich players should help out these people to make the world a better place.

  • Of-course, there must be a cap on their salaries...

Sportspersons have begun to grow with more greed and ego with the increase in their salaries. We must also understand that increase in salaries also creates a sense of disunity and competition among the same team at times. Just because they might retire in their middle ages doesn't mean they only have that salary as their life-time money. They can look for other jobs in order to earn income for the family. Ordinary people also don't enjoy something which is costly. If the salary of a sportsperson increases, the cost of the ticket also increases, which leads to a very costly match ticket.

  • Think about others

Where the sportspeople enjoy the poor suffer . Where the sportspeople make millions by just hitting a ball , the soldiers who risk their lives for the whole country don't even get proper food . Is this the way things should be should we let this continue or should we place a cap on on their salary. I choose to place a cap on their salary/income.What do you think?

  • We need more bananas.

Someday in the future, the currency of the American dollar will be changed to bananas. We need the banana currency economy to be supported and right, which means that some people must be rich so that they can support the poor. Banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana banana!

  • Let them be rich

IF THEYYY DO WELL ENOGH IN THEIR SPORT AND GET PAID LOTS OF MONEY FROM THEIR SOO CALLED "CLIENTS" FAMoUS ATHLETES NEED MONEY TO PAY FOR THEIR CHILDRENS SCHOOL FEES AND OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS. ASWELL AS RENT AND KEEPING THEM ALIVE WITH FOOD AND WATER. PEOPLE MONEY DOESN'T GROW ON TREES OR FALL OUT OF THE SKY SO LET THEM EARN WHAT THEY EARN!!!!!!!!!

  • Let them be rich!

IF someone is doing good in their sport/activity they should be able to earn as much money as their 'clients' are willing to pay. SO if they have children they can't afford school fees and other things if their sport isn't paying them enough money. People need money, IT DOESN'T GROW ON TREES, OR FALL OUT OF THE SKY!!!!!!!

  • Athletes retire at a young age

Athletes retire a young age like 33. What about the rest of their lives? They already have to rent so that's taking away from their income. Still what if their spouse doesn't have a job and they have to pay for their child(ren) school. ISN'T THAT ALOT OF MONEY FOR ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME. THEY WORK FOR LIKE 10-15 YEARS. WHAT IF YOU WERE AN ATHLETE HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED. SO SHUT UP BITCHES

  • Salary cap is must

If we think about this in a literal sense why should someone who practically hits a ball with a stick and runs around like an idiot get paid more than someone who is doing a public service to protect our country. I mean if you really think about it that doesn't make much sense does it.

  • What if you are good at sport

I want to be a professional sports person however to succeed and have a family i need to have a job and train twice daily for 6-7 days a week. That is all i need to say but the website said i need 20 more words so im talking a bunch of rubbish now.

  • Hypocrisy and nothing more.

    1. Professional athletes are W-9 exempt and get paid what their "clients" are willing to pay for their service as individual contractors.
    2. Professional athletes have a specific skill set that no average person has. And people (fans) are willing to pay to see these skills. So blame the fans that actually produce their salary in the first place.
    3. Athletes additional income comes from mega corporations willing to pay crazy marketing dollars to the "contractor" so you can buy those $200 basketball shoes.

Why don't we cut Hollywood's salaries also? And why don't we push to cut the insane salaries of CEOs? And why don't you demand fans to stop paying ridiculous prices for season tickets?

  • They need a cap

Soldiers are getting killed every hour and yet we sit here and worry about " Who's plying in the next game?" and " Why don't they get more money?" People need to face reality and start learning the true reason we have such a great nation. It is because of the true men who fight for their country and not blame it for being under paid to "entertain"

  • Think about it

Athletes risk their careers their health and sometimes even their lives stepping out on the field just to entertain. This is mainly directed to football and soccer because people have DIED and have gotten seriously injured and paralyzed from a big hit of somthing as simple as falling to hard on a bone. All in all professional athlete deserve as much money as they get.

  • Think of the children

Think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children think of the children
