  • There is no need for them that isn't illegal.

Yes, assault weapons should be restricted to the military. There is no need for civilians to have them. You can't hunt with them and they aren't needed for protection when you can use safer types of guns. The only time you really see them being used outside of the military is by gangs, and they certainly don't need them.

  • They are absolutely unnecessary

Assault weapons should undoubtedly be banned for the good of the American people. The simplest reason being that assault weapons are not necessary for gun ownership. People own weapons for recreation, defense, and hunting. Assault weapons are obviously not needed for hunting and recreation, so let's elaborate on why you don't need them for defense. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you are four times more likely to be shot in a gun assault with a gun visible on your body. With assault weapons, the gun is always visible on your body, so you are always in danger in public with one. At your house, you can obviously use a shotgun or gun of some other sort making assault weapons totally superfluous to gun ownership. Something that is apart of any amount of gun violence that can be removed without disturbing gun ownership should be removed for safety and tranquility.

  • Stop at Semi-Automatic Weapons

How many bullets does it take to kill someone? The answer is one. We don't need automatic assault weapons to defend our homes, nor do we need large magazines that hold 20 or more bullets. Ten bullets for one semi-automatic gun should be enough to kill an intruder into our homes, which is the point of gun ownership in the first place.

  • We should ban assault weapons.

We should ban assault weapons. There is absolutely no place in society where we would need to have access to assault weapons expect to hurt someone else. Even if we ban these items it will not be enough because if a criminal wants to get their hands on them then they will do so.

  • Assault weapons should be banned.

The public has no need what so ever for assault weapons, which were made for heavy warfare situations in which many troops were needed to be highly effective at one thing: killing people. Civilians should not have access to these very deadly weapons, because there is no need for them.

  • Ban Assault Weapons

Our fore fathers weapons at the signing of the 2nd amendment was the Kentucky rifle (musket). Capable of firing 3 balls of .70caliber a minute. But, think the FBI dropped the ball on Omar Marteen. They investigated him twice, he was on their 'watch' list. But they closed his file down. Omar Marteen should have raised a red flag, bells and whistles should have gone off, when he purchased that assault type weapon. It did not, as there is no data base in the nation regards to folks who are on the 'watch list' when they purchase guns and ammo.

  • Assault weapons allow severity increase

AN assault weapon is not something to be in the hands of a civilian. In mass homicides such as sandy hook or aurora why would the people want the criminals to possess the means to weapons of such possible damage. Banning assault rifles does not end shootings as shootings occur when unstable people are able to get a hand on the weapons but instead to prevent the severity of a shooting as someone may spray down a crowd firing semi automatically such as compared to a bolt action rifle where the rate of fire is much less therefore allowing less casualties.

  • Ban assault weapons

No one's Second Amentment rights should include buying or owning assault weapons. Everyone has the right to protect their property. However, private citizens do not need them for any purpose.
We have seen such violent killings of innocent people and most we done with these assault weapons. The NRA says guns don't kill, but they do. Anyone can get a gun if you have the money. They buy at dealers, gun shows, and off the street. They also steal them.
We have more gun owners than any other country. Banning assault weapons might not stop all gun violence but it would stop some of these mass killings.

  • Education and safety

    1. Many people say that we should have never given guns to the American people, because that would have limited the amount of firearms in the hands of criminals today. This may be true, but we cannot act upon what we should have done. We can only act upon what is. Taking away firearms from law abiding citizens who will now do nothing for the firearms that are in the hands of criminals.

    2. Not many gun deaths in America are accidents, but it is significant enough that it needs to be looked at. If you like it or not guns are a part of American society, and we need to educate ourselves about them. As stated above we cannot base what we do on what should be, but what is. Since firearms are part of our culture we must know what to do when we see one. If you have never learned how to handle one, find someone who can.

    3. More than two thirds of gun related deaths are suicides. It has been shown that if someone does not have access to a gun that a person will find another way to commit suicide. This means that the United states needs to educate citizens on what a someone who is thinking of suicide looks like. This is not the same for everyone. Usually only the people close to a potentially suicidal person can notice. Suicide help needs to be more readily available. This does not mean that fire arms need to be taken.

    4. Many say that America has the most citizens that own guns than any other country. This, according to most accounts is true, but this is not a number the number we should be looking at. America is a huge place with a giant population. We also have a lot of guns, in fact we have more guns than every other country, but most of those are in our military. The country with the most civilian gun owners is actually Switzerland. A country that has one of the lowest homicide per ca pita rates in the world.

    5. Addressing just the pure blame of firearms. We have all heard guns don't kill people, people kill people. We have heard that so many times that it has become the flagship argument in the pro gun movement. To concur with this argument, you wouldn't blame the alcohol for a death caused by a drunk driver.

    6. Finally, going back to my first point, Taking firearms from law abiding citizens will not get them out of the hands of criminals. If this where true then making cocaine illegal would have taken it off the streets in 1914. Most people don't need a firearm to defend themselves, but it is always better to have something and not need it, than need it and not have it.

  • Protecting the Constitution

The problem with banning semiautomatic, high-capacity rifles is that it clears the path for even more gun control laws. It has been said, "The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed." This is exactly what is happening to the second amendment. Next, all semiautomatic guns will be banned. We need these guns to not only protect ourselves from criminals, but from the government as well. It is possible that at some point evil powers will enter our political system. For this reason, the people must be armed equally to the state. George Washington said, "A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." For this reason, the right to own assault rifles should not be taken from us.

  • Absolutely not, never!

So called "Assault weapons" are used in less than 3% of crime, their prohibition would do less than nothing to prevent crime. The Virgina Tech shooter killed 33 people with a pair of handguns, the columbine shooters used two shotguns, the terrorists in France used fully automatic Kalashnikovs that were illegally smuggled into the nation. Criminals and those with ill intent will still have access to weapons and will make use of them!

  • No Free man shall be debarred the use of arms.

This is the consequence of a free society, no matter what restriction is made, there will always be evil in the world. To suggest that taking away from peaceful, law abiding citizens will reduce gun crime, is ignorant. What will deter any traitorous individual from committing a crime, is the fear they will have that another countryman will stop them. All that is needed for evil to succeed, is good men to do nothing. To take away our right to defend ourselves, we make ourselves more vulnerable.

  • Banning "assault weapons" is illogical.

So called "assault weapons" are used in relatively few crimes, and are overshadowed by other means of violence, such as using a hammer. Yes murder by hammer is more common then murder by a so called "assault weapon"

The features used to define an assault weapon are primarily, cosmetic/comfort features.

    Such as
Extendable stock: because one size does not fit all but an adjustable size can definitely help fit most. Does nothing for lethality.

Pistol grip: overall a far more natural way to hold a rifle then the traditional stock, no bending your wrist into an awkward position with a pistol grip. Does nothing for lethality, and does not enable hip firing, no gun has ever been designed to fire from the hip, it's about the the most moronic way to waste bullets ever.

Bayonet lug: primarily cosmetic enables a bayonet. Does not increase lethality substantially, why use a knife when you have a gun? Still used for military to some degree but has been phased out to a fairly large degree.
Flash suppressor: comfort, for those who don't want a giant fireball coming out of their rifle when they shoot it. Does nothing for lethality.

Muzzle break: comfort/ arguably a safety feature, just helps manage recoil so the gun does not jump as much when fired allowing the user more control, and honestly in normal safe gun use control of the gun is important for safety. Does not really add to rapid fire capabilities, since it does not affect recoil enough to help.

High capacity magazines: primarily convenience, it's nice to have more then five shots when you are shooting targets. The vast majority of gun crimes do not use high capacity magazines, and most do not break 3 shots. A higher capacity magazine only relevant against an opponent armed with another gun.

  • 2 nd amendment

By law if we are not a felon. Why take our guns away, because of the stupidity of other people. Our society is flushed with the media saying that assault rifles are so bad. When they aren't even the main use in mass shootings. Any thing can be used for a mass murder...
