Should we choose our own classes in middle school?

  • We should not have to take classes for things that will not help us in what we want to do.

Of course we would have basic classes for major subjects, but after those few classes we should be able to chose our own classes. I say this because it is almost like a waste of time if you will never need the skill from that class if you will never use it in what you strive to do.

  • Yes, i mean whats the big deal

Because for kids its easier to learn in the afternoon then in the morning because they are more wide awake. And they should actually get to learn about stuff they are interested in but still have to take math, reading, writing, and maybe science. They should get the chance to benefit their own education.

  • When are we ever gonna see each other

Kids always complain when they dont get to see their friends during class so to solve the problem we sould be able to chose our own classes . When I went to the school to see my classes they told me dont pick a class you like cuz you probably wont get it

  • Student's Choice Of Life

Students should get there choice because they can learn about things they want to learn about in stead of classes about being a scientist and they get the job they want i personally want to be a veterinarian, so my opinion to this debate is yes middle school students should pick there classes.

  • Yeah, its great

Because Harvard says that “Mazur was forced to admit that his students weren’t grasping the concepts he was presenting to them. In a moment of despair, he told students to discuss a question he had posed with one another. Within two minutes, they had figured out the answer. That pivotal moment made him realize what needed to change was his teaching. From then on, he began experimenting with more active learning styles where students engaged with one another to help find the answers. His interactive teaching method has gone on to earn a large following internationally and nationally.”
which shows students learn better when they get to be engaged/interact.So, students SHOULD get to choose what to learn.

  • Yes, students should be given more choice

Choosing our own classes increases autonomy of student, and allows student to specialize more into a subject they are interested in. This benefits the student as more autonomy translates into more responsibility, and the student can learn something he/she enjoys in more depth, which is beneficial to the overall economy as the more specialized a person is, the better they can do their job.

  • Yes, it lets us feel more responsible.

Letting kids figure out what they like, and are good at, will help them understand what topics/carriers they might want to go into in the future. That would help them not make a mistake of going into the wrong collage when the time comes. That would save hundreds of peoples families a ton of money. Also, if someone is not good at a few subjects, but is really good in another, they should be allowed to drop the class they are not good in and take the class they are good in for the entire year (or just spend more time on the subject they are good in).

  • Children need to focus on what they are good at.

I know a child who is a fantastic artist, but has bad grades in core subjects. This child has been picked on, by teachers even, because of this. If the child could choose their classes and prove their worth, they could be respected and show their peers how successful they can be.

  • We need freedom

Students should be allowed to pick any classes they want in middle school, with certain restrictions. They should be forced to take the bare minimum of required classes (or higher), but after that I think that students should be allowed to pick what they are interested in. This will give them ideas of what they would like to persue in college and possible jobs. We need to have our own freedom and be able to choose what we are interested in.

  • No. We're still irresponsible and immature.

Middle schoolers should not because we would choose classes with out friends, easy classes, and we wouldn't take any challenging classes. For example, if u really needed to take a math class but choose am easy class without friends, that wouldn't help you. We all know we would do that.

  • I am josh and have to do a project.

This review was forced by a teacher to tell you all that students don't need choice and we should be forced to do stuff. If Jacob sees this than hi. I strongly believe that teachers know what's best and letting students choose classes is lazy and irresponsible of them. Thank you.
