Elephant ivory has been used in huge amounts to make billiards balls, piano keys, identification chops and many other items for human enjoyment. "According to Gettlemen, as much of 70 percent of the illegal ivory heads to China, where a pound can fetch as much as $1,000. "The demand for ivory has surged to the point that the tusks of a single adult elephant can be worth more than 10 times the average annual income in many African countries," Gettlemen writes. Ivory' s properties -- durability, the ease with which it can be carved, and its absence of splintering -- uniquely suited it for a variety of uses. Archaeologists and historians have recovered many practical tools made out of ivory: buttons, hairpins, chopsticks, spear tips, bow tips, needles, combs, buckles, handles, billiard balls, and so on."-http://www.Theatlantic.Com/business/archive/2012/09/what-is-it-about-an-elephants-tusks-that-make-them-so-valuable/262021/

  • Elephants are become endangered, so yes

Elephant poaching is something that the world has had to deal with for a very long time. There really is no logical argument that would support elephant poachers. Ivory is a very valuable substance just because of its rarity, and allowing criminals to poach them just so they can make a quick buck is wrong.

  • Yes, poaching elephants will lead their endangerment and/or extinction.

Elephants have long been desired for their ivory, and have a long history of being poached. This has, in turn, caused many species of elephants to become endangered or even extinct. You do not need to be an elephant enthusiast to be affected by the harm that this may cause. Ecologically speaking, elephants play an important part in the biospheres in which they resides, and their sudden removal from said biospheres could lead to a catastrophic domino effect down the food chain.

  • Elephants are an important part of nature!

It is wrong that people are killing innocent animals for money! They are harmless creatures and they don't deserve to die for peoples stupid obsession. Ivory belongs on elephants. Not on jewellery or little statues, Elephants are amazing animals and the people who hunt and poach them deserve to be shot.

  • We should DEFINETLEY stop poaching....

Thirty thousand elephants are killed each year for their skin and tusks, and are turned into purses or jewellery. Despite a ban on the international trade in ivory, African elephants are still being poached in large numbers. The Elephant conservation says, “Even if we stopped poaching tomorrow elephants would still be in big trouble.” Poaching is the biggest threat to Elephants, they say that Elephants could be extinct soon. Could you imagine a world without elephants? Elephants are vital to the environment. They are worth no piece of jewellery. They are extremely intelligent creatures that have been on the earth longer than any of us. They also attract tourists and protect the wilderness.
Elephants, iconic species face the biggest threat to survival due to continued ivory poaching. As long as there is a demand for ivory, elephants continue to be killed for their tusks. You can help by donating money or simply not buying anything made of ivory since it fuels the ivory trade.

  • This shouldn't be a question.

Elephants are smart and gentle creatures that have been proven to be as intelligent as humans. We need to protect them from harm. This shouldn't even be a question. The greed that we see in places where people want ivory, are you serious. Shame on you. How would you like it if someone kills you to put out your teeth and wants to sell it for $1000.

  • We still need elephants

Elephants are one of the most beautiful graceful creatures ever created and what people are doing to them is terrible we need to stop this now. One of the most beautiful things about them is their beautiful swimming art they are the second most beautiful swimmers ever. They have learned to cool themselves off by swimming and they are mammals so they cleverly used their trunk as a "snorkel". I honestly think that they are the best animals ont he planet and we need to stop poaching them.

  • For the money

You can make 20 million dollars from killing and selling their tusks.Lots of elephants die as a result of hunters taking their tusks because removing the ivory almost always kills the animals. It's estimated that up to 30,000 African elephants die every year because they are hunted for ivory. Not right no killing elephants
