The Taiwanese have remained independent from China since the 90's and should remain as such. They are sovereign, although China views Taiwan as part of greater China, and would love to assert this authority, but has not due to international support for an independent Taiwan. Taiwan should remain independent from China by a Declaration of Independence.
Independence is and should remain politically feasible in Taiwan. Although certain established powers likely fear independence because it could cost them politically powerful positions, the moral case for governing people without their consent is highly flawed. If the people of Taiwan desire independence, any legitimate regime governing those people will allow their will to prevail.
