Terrorism in France: Will a new National Guard prevent future attacks?

  • A new National Guard for France will help prevent attacks

The new National Guard in France will be a helpful step in preventing terrorist attacks, but there is still a need for many other resources. Terrorists seem to attack from out of nowhere, but there can be many layers of prevention. Working with local police and communities groups, the National Guard can be more aware of the possible hot spots that harbor terrorists.

  • No, they will not.

France's terrorism problem can not be solved by a new National Gaurd because the issue is not how much security they have. These terrorist attacks are a direct response to the systematic racism and horrible abuse that occurs in France. If they can find a way to end this racism, then they can stop terrorists.

  • No, more force is not the solution

No, I don't think that National Guard can prevent future terrorist attacks in France. The problem they have cannot be solved with more police force, Gendarmerie, or in this case National Guard. France must find the way to integrate it's vast Muslim population so that terrorist cannot hide among them nor recruit new fighters.

  • It won't help

A new National Guard will not prevent future attacks. There is no way to prevent people at all times from committing terror attacks. This is because society has traditionally relied upon each person to keep civility as a norm. But there is a breakdown in the last ten years and a national guard is not enough to fix what is lacking.

  • Not the ultimate solution

A new National Guard does not prevent attacks from happening. It only reduces the damages inflicted on the French people during the aftermath. In order to combat terrorism, we must tackle it at it roots. The roots of terrorism is radical islam and the huge influx of refugees who are unregulated and as a result, all walks of life enters France without a problem, even potential terrorists. The only way to solve the ongoing problem is the crackdown of Muslim enclaves and pro-ISIS rhetorics online and the deportation of able-bodied refugees to fight their own war

  • Cannot be everywhere.

Just like the police, this national guard cannot be everywhere. The idea of a paramilitary force in addition to the Gendarmerie is concerning. A better idea in my opinion is allowing the French people to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and their families, not to give that responsibility to a militia of sorts. Individuals can be everywhere, a national guard cannot. That being said, individuals are only responsible for themselves, and not necessarily there to prevent crimes from happening. So there's that.
