The Villain is typically more interesting and important than the Hero, in critically acclaimed movies

  • Superhero Movies / Aliens and Zombies

It all comes down to the premise, which is established by the bad guy.

The well-done, famous superhero movies are the ones where the villain excels. Batman is always Batman, but the Joker changes with the movie.

Alien and zombie movies are based mostly on their premise and how good the enemies are. For example: Battle LA was good because of the premise and how the aliens just attacked, did you care about the marines? No
