Trump promises truth in his convention speech, despite expressing several misleading statistics: Should politicians be expected to always tell the truth?
  • Tell the truth

Tell the truth the lie and scare tactics' if you want to say some at should be the truth. This is what we always tell our children to do why can't or political leaders do that? If you can't you should not be running for office lie are bad for all.

  • Yes, politicians should be expected to always tell the truth

Despite the fact that it is human nature to tell untruths from time to time, with varying degrees depending on the individual and situation, I believe it is fair to expect politicians to be truthful at all times concerning matters of public interest. They should be held to a higher level of responsibility as they are representative and responsible for large sectors of society. They choose to put themselves in a position to be elected into such positions of authority, and as such, they should give themselves high standards which they should always strive to maintain. As ordinary members of society, we should expect the same and trust that our politicians will always be truthful.

  • Politicians should generally be held accountable for lies, except in issues of national security.

We must be able to trust our leaders, which means we must elect honest leaders. No one is perfect, but there are men and women of integrity who generally strive to be honest. There are obvious exceptions to the need for transparency, such as in cases of national security and classified information. And the public is reasonably forgiving for misstatements and for genuine changes in position. Our leaders are human and must be granted some grace in that area but they also must be trustworthy, which means they must be as honest as reasonably possible.

  • Yes, politicians are public servants and should be expected to tell the truth.

Yes, politicians like Trump represent the interests of the citizens they serve. As such, they should be expected to tell the truth. If they are hiding something, then they cannot be trusted, and the people should not vote them in. If it's about a personal matter, then they should just say, "I prefer not to answer that."

  • No, politicians should not be expected to tell the truth

No, politicians should not be expected to tell the truth. This does not mean that politicians should not tell the truth. In this country, however, one cannot expect politicians to tell the truth. They will say anything that will allow them to get elected. No one expects Donald Trump to tell the truth.
