A lot of people talk a big game regarding being interested in renewable energy, but we haven't seen a lot of actual, physical progress towards it playing a significant role. Putting in legislation that pushes people towards it may finally get the ball rolling on that, and also show people reluctant to accept renewable energy that it's not that bad.
The main argument made for greener energy should be reducing our dependence upon Middle Eastern oil. Take that volatile region out of the equation altogether by focusing on renewable energy resources and electric vehicles. Secondarily, and over the longer term, reducing our carbon footprint in the atmosphere improves the overall health of the world as smog and particulate pollution is reduced and global warming is slowed.
