Vegetarianism: Is meat consumption too expensive for individuals?

  • Meat Prices Are High

As a person who grocery shops and often has do so on a very limited budget in the United States, the consumption of meat is too expensive for individuals. The prices of meat have steadily climbed and have made it more difficult for my family to incorporate healthy meat choices into our diets. We are often forced to stick with cheap ground beef, then supplement with poultry or pork.

  • Meat consumption is too expensive for individuals.

Meat consumption is too expensive for individuals. Have you seen the prices at your local grocery store lately? They are getting ridiculous. However, that does not mean that everyone will switch to being a vegetarian because that can be costly too. I think more people will start hunting their own food sources.

  • Fast food hamburgers point to the answer being no.

Unfortunately, consumption of meat is not all that expensive. And there's plenty of low quality meat and products made from low quality meat available on the market at 1/3 the price of vegetables. When was the last time you saw 2 fruit salads for 99 cents at a fast food place? And now when was the last time you saw 2 tacos for the same price?

  • No it is not.

Meat consumption is not too expensive for individuals. Many times, getting stuff that is vegetarian and does not contain any meat is more expensive then getting meat in your food. There are some expensive types of meat, but if you steer clear of those and eat the cheap meat it will not cost a lot.

  • No it is not.

Of course it depends on the type of meat that is being purchased, but overall meat is fairly cheap. It is the fresh fruits and vegetables that cost so much. One can purchase chicken thighs or hamburger and it is very inexpensive. Also, fresh produce tends to go back quick which makes it cost even more.

  • In this country I don't think meat is too expensive.

While I don't know for sure if meat is too expensive in other countries it seems to be affordable enough for many people in this country to have access to it. I suppose in some cases it may be fairly expensive and can be costly. It really may depend on the quantity of meat as well.

  • No, vegetarianism can be very expensive.

The big problem with vegetarianism or going organic is that everything costs so much more. Meat is cheap, and it's cheap for a reason. It's easy to get, and most of the time people don't know what exactly is going in that meat. Most super markets don't carry the best produce, therefore making you shop at an expensive store if a farmer's market isn't available. Many people think that if going organic or just buying healthier options weren't so expensive, we wouldn't have an obesity problem.
