Yes, Virgin America is about to become a leading airline in the U.S. There are lots of airlines out there, but only a couple that can be considered major airlines. Virgin is working towards breaking into the top group of airlines, and should be able to do so after raising $300 million already.
The entrance of Virgin America into the US airline market is a very interesting development. It's no great secret that US airlines aren't exactly known for their customer service, with the ever-shrinking size of the individual seat and decreasing complimentary food services being the trends of the last few decades. If Virgin America can manage to offer even marginally better customer service, they will make a big splash in the US airline market.
Richard Branson has succeeded before with airlines all over the world. America may be a tough market to crack but if anyone can do it Virgin can and the markets clearly agree. Not only do they have the skill and experience but the American airlines are horribly in debt, loosing money and have poor reputations among the essential consumers.
This obviously depends on a handful of things. Whether or not their profit is steadily on a rise or if it is rapidly increasing and then becoming pretty steady. This could mean that since the amount made has increased, that the company will eventually become the leading airline, but that could also mean that it could be something temporary.
