Every presidential candidate has released his or her tax returns and Donald Trump should be held to the same standard. The fact that he refuses to release his returns leaves the American voter wondering what he may be hiding. It is a matter of transparency and it is his responsibility as a presidential candidate to earn the trust of the American people.
It's not a requirement at this point, but most candidates for President have released at least a portion of their returns or their 1040s during the period they were campaigning for office. If Trump has nothing to hide, he should follow suit. His refusal just creates more controversy and if he just released something, it would go away.
No, Donald Trump should not be forced to release his tax returns. Tax returns are a private matter and there is no part of running for President of the U.S. that requires their release. The fact that Trump refuses to release his tax returns should be cause for concern and already tell voters at least part of what they need to know.
No, I do not believe that Donald Trump should be forced to release his tax returns as part of running for office unless other candidates are forced to do the same. People would like to see Donald Trump's tax returns to see how much he is paying in taxes as well as whether he paid the appropriate amount.
