War in Afghanistan: Was the invasion justified by the 9/11 attack on New York?

  • Yes, they attacked us.

Al-Qaeda attacked US soil, and killed 3,000 people at 9/11. They were being supported and harbored by the sovereign government of Afghanistan. The Taliban government refused to hand over Bin Laden, and to help us take out al-Qaeda, so we had no choice other than to invade, if we wanted to stop terrorist attacks on US soil. We couldn't have stood around and done nothing. We had to take action, and military intervention was our only option.

  • The invasion justified by the 9/11 attack on New York

After 911, America needed to do something as a show of force. As it turned out, bin Laden was hiding in Afghanistan before he fled to Pakistan. Hunting down bin Laden and getting rid of the Taliban was justified. There has been less terrorism because of the invasion of Afghanistan.

  • No I don't Believe it was,

There are two main questions about the war in Afghanistan. Has it been justified and is it winnable or will it turn out like Vietnam? Although there are many similarities between the two wars, there is also a big difference. I ultimately believe that the presence of troops in Afghanistan have made a difference but not without many losses and therefore I don’t fully believe that the war in Afghanistan has been justified by the 9/11 attacks.

  • It was unwarranted

It was unwarranted and not to mention illegal. The US invasion was never approved by the UN Security Council, making it an illegal move. Furthermore Al Qaeda were an individual terrorist group acting independently, not under Afghan Government leadership. We let the need for revenge get the best of us, and this would cost the US many lives.

  • No, it wasnt

The Taliban said they would hand over Osama Bin Laden if the United States handed over some evidence. The United States refused to hand over any evidence. Also, the people who attacked the country where terrorists, not Afghan soldiers. This would be the same thing as if a United States citizen blew up a building in a foreign country. That country wouldn't have the right to invade us in order to "root out all of this persons allies".

  • No, I do not think so.

The invasion in my opinion was not totally justified. In some ways it was helpful, but overall it has put a lot of strain on our country and then our troops got stuck out there fighting a war we should not have been in there in the first place. Overall it is ify.
