War in Afghanistan: Was the United State's decision to go to war in Afghanistan justified?

  • The war in Afghanistan was justified

Before 2001 the United States was Afghanistan's greatest source of humanitarian aid so were more than aware of the suffering of the Afghani people under the rule of the brutal Taliban regime. However, the U.S and other ISAF forces refrained from taking military action into Afghanistan. It was after the September 11 attacks on the U.S by Al Qaeda which resulted in the cold blooded murder of 3000 Americans that it was evident that Afghnistan posed a threat to the U.S and its allies. Western intelligence agencies concluded that Al Qaeda were responsible and Al Qaeda later admitted full responsibility for the attacks. It was also discovered that the Taliban regime was harbouring Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan so it was now evident that Afghanistan posed a threat to the U.S and other western nations. The U.S demanded that Al Qaeda hand over themselves, Osama Bin Laden and give the U.S full access to all the terrorist training camps in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda however refused to meet these demands so the U.S and its allies had no choice but to deploy military measures and invade Afghanistan to not only confront Al Qaeda and the Taliban regime but to also install a democratic and sovereign government in Afghanistan so she would no longer harbour international terrorist organisations who wish to attack the U.S and other western nations.

  • Yes, going to war was justified.

It was needed to invade to protect our people from further terrorist attacks. For instance, what would you do if you're best friend or child is getting bullied. You would stand up and fight right? To make sure they aren't hurt anymore? Same reason here. It was justified to fight.

  • Can't believe I am going to say this but

The reason was justifiable. However, they went way too far. The Taliban got out of government but they still bomb the place. I want this to end already. Afghanistan is doing fine except when you keep bombing the place. But still, getting rid of the Taliban was good but that was all you needed to do.

  • US Decision to Go to War with Afghanistan Justified

Yes, the United States' decision to go to war with Afghanistan was justified due to the fact that Afghanistan was harboring the terrorists who claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks. Had the terrorists responsible merely been at large within Afgahnistan, then the war would not have been as justified, and instead working with the Afghanistan government to track them down would have been.

  • Yes, Afghanistan was host to several terrorist groups that had planned and executed attacks against the United States.

Yes, The United State's decision to go to war in Afghanistan was justified. It is my belief that Afghanistan had a hostile regime towards the United States and was a host to the terror group known as Al Qaeda that launched an attack in 2001 to destroy several American building and lives. Going to war against Afghanistan allowed us to pursue Osama Bin Laden; the leader if Al-Qaeda, prevent further attacks on the United States and it's allies, and liberate its civilians from its hostile regime. Since 2001, Osama Bin Laden has been caught and killed and their have been no further successful terror attacks by Al-Qaeda in the United States.

  • No it wasn't. It cannot be.

As a law student you have to ooh at things fairly. America's reason for invading Afghanistan was based on falsified and circumstantial evidence. A country isn't allowed to invade another country without permission from the Security Council, but since America is the hegemony power in the world nothing was done . If it was a weaker country they would have been sanctioned and cut off.
