  • Beginning of the Police State

After September 11 2001, we saw a significant increase in laws and regulations that was hostile towards human beings and human freedom. "If you see something, say something" was used to have people snitch on their neighbors, and "terrorist" slowly became not just a word describing a person who use violence in order to achieve social and political goals, but also to point out an individual who peacefully voices his dissent toward the government and political decisions.

  • Declining Power of the USA

The Economic/Military/Political power of the USA was at its peak from 1944-1971 since that time its declined in stages. Yes 9/11 was a major blow to democracy in the states it allowed the power that be to impose their will on the American people using terrorism as a pretext. Unfortunately most of the citizens really do not understand what the government and private entities pulled off during and after that day. When a system is in decline either the government and people can reform the problems and correct the trajectory of decline of they can keep on the same trajectory but do not expect any different results. When the Roman Empire for example was in decline the elites of that empire instead of reforming their corrupt ways basically sold the Roman citizens out to the new powers such as Germania an also enslaved the people for their own use so feudalism was born to keep the wealthy in their positions of prosperity at the expense of everyone else. America is experiencing the same decline and the selling of the citizens into slavery creating an oligarchical feudalistic society using the war on terror and other extractions to implement their goals.

  • We are trading our rights!!!!

After 9/11 people were scared and wanted to feel safe. So here we are, bombing and killing innocent civilians because of a threat. Has it ever crossed Obama's mind that the reason that we are being terrorized is because of the medaling in others affairs. Bombing neighbor hoods and arresting people without trials. The Government is the terrorist, the militias in the middle east are nothing more than a resistance group. Now we want that security, gun tradagies happen and now those damn Liberals want to disarm us of assault riffles, if they do (God Forbid they do) take them away. We are at the mercy of the Government. All these new laws and regulations restrict our nations "Democracy". The TSA is looking up your ass for a damn box cutter. If we could carry on planes, then i don't think terrorist would want to hang there.

  • Hasn't it already ended?

The attacks on 9/11 were tragic, but is it possible this was a ploy used by our government to reshape the country to their interests. If you research Operation Northwoods which was to be carrried out during the Cuban Crisis after the 2nd world war we see many similarities to the attacks on 9/11. What we may have witnessed on that day was a false-flag attack brought on by our own government to push a new global agenda and the PNAC (Plan for a new American century, which itself states the country would need another Pearl Harbor like event to reorganize itself to the extent they desired. 9/11 was tragic but why hasn't all the evidence been declassified and released to the public. There are so many questions about that day that influence every step the country has taken since. Perhaps Democracy is already dead and we are all being manipulated for a higher agenda. The New World Order is coming. Never stop asking questions, especially when things don't make sense.

  • Yes it was

That's when the Government started putting fear into American people that their security was being threatened. After that, the government would start overstepping it's bounds with regulations. That is when the patriot act was born and the thus leading to the NSA using unconstitutional practices to keep an eye on Americans.

  • We are now trading our rights for security

After 9/11 people were scared and wanted to feel safe. So here we are, bombing and killing innocent civilians because of a threat. Has it ever crossed Obama's mind that the reason that we are being terrorized is because of the medaling in others affairs. Bombing neighbor hoods and arresting people without trials. • LOL epic fail

Their are a lot of things that are the down fall of democracy 9/11 is not even in the same ballpark... What are the things contributing to the downfall of democracy? I'm glad you asked.
    1. Special Interest groups in DC. Policy being bought instead of it being shaped consistently with the evolving will of the people.
    2. Congressional districts being restructured to the point that congress can no longer be held accountable to the people.
    3. Failing school systems that result in a generations of ignorance. I could go on.

  • Not at all.

Of course things have tightened up after 9/11, but it's not anywhere near the end of Democracy. I would say the Government is taking a more Authoritarian stance trying to fend of terrorism. Although I don't approve of the tactics and policies, I highly doubt this is anywhere near the apocalyptic ending of Democracy in the US.

  • I can't even conceive how.

If you are referring to how people are giving up rights and freedom to the President and Congress for safety, than you're stupid. The prior NSA PRISM issue, and the reaction to the Patriot Program should tell you that American's aren't going to give up freedom for security.

Some are stupid enough to, but not the majority. Now Obamacare, that's a different issue all together...

  • Democracy took a blow but it wasn't fatal

I'm assuming the question is asking if 9/11 was the end of democracy in the USA. I'll also assume that democracy means a government in which all eligible citizens participate equally.

The answer is no. 9/11 has not in any way shape or form prevented eligible citizens from voting. There are older systems in place which threatens democracy such as the electoral college. The electoral college undermined democracy directly in 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote but lost due to the electoral college system. The equality of votes is disturbed in our current system. However, I claim that the electoral college is democratic enough. Although it should be shut down and replaced with a popular vote system, it's close enough.

The republicans have tried to deter democracy in Pennsylvania with requiring ID being shown. As this law would have disenfranchised potential voters, it directly threatened democracy.

However, at the core of things, every eligible citizen is still able to cast their vote and thus there is no threat to democracy.

  • The person who asked the question is confusing democracy with hegemony.

9/11 unfortunately demonstrated weakness in America. Had the weakness continued, then not only would American hegemony be threatened, but also the American way of life, which does involve a democracy. Luckily the administration during which it occurred is no longer in office.

Democracy is not contingent on American hegemony. It is possible that other nations may adopt such a form of political expression regardless of which country is the dominant power.
