  • Dictator with the right heart

He took a country that was poor, had social unrest, Italian pride was lost, had lack of jobs, lack education, lack transportation, and kick all the mafiosos out of the country; He was decisive, strong, and inspired the youth of Italia to be proud of their Nation, their Leaders, and a reason to fight for a better future. Was he a Dictator, yes he was. But he made us proud of whom we were.

  • Yes, he was

Compared to Hitler, Mussolini was actually a true fascist leader, who tried ( and suceeded) at emulating his idol Juius Caesar during 1920's Italy.
The reason why, at least one of the reasons why, he is favored as a great leader, is because he is responsible for rebuilding Italy and restoring order, pride, and strength of the nation.

He is one of the only dictators in history who was not racist, which, in my opinion, helped make him and Italy better.

  • From the italian perspective

He is often too closely associated with hitler. Though the great and civiliazed Italian empire, He reformed his millitary, inspired youth, reformed economy, and restored pride in the reigon. Soviet POWS say italian fought equal- if not harder than germans, Germans say Mussolini was loyal to the end (despite some germans blaming loss on Italy, Italy was the strongest, greatest, and most advanced country in the reigon) , UK say Italians could have been great freinds, and france say Italy was able to boast stregth over it self.

  • I'm Italian too and...What?

No. No he was not. He was a facist dictator with blackshirts and a secret police that would silence any form of free speech or political opposition and only cared so much about childrens education so he could brainwash them ti be the facists of the future and to stress that boys must fight and girls must have as many children as possible to imcrease the military population. I dint think that being better than hitler equals good leader.

  • I am conflicted.

While researching I have found that Mussolini reclaimed land for Italy and drained land like the Pontine Marshes in order to accommodate railroads and schools. However he glorified war and had all students enrol in studies which taught them fascist ideology. The definition of fascism mentions racism and it may be said that Benito was not racist but he did consider black people to be inferior to whites and disliked Croatians and Slovenians. He said he would "easily sacrifice 500,000 barbarians Slavs for 50,000 Italians". He also had Blackshirts carry out squadristi violence against anybody who criticised his regime. He may have 'made Italy great again' (sound familiar?? ;D) but fundamentally he was a bad person. No wonder he got killed in a remote village while being hund upside down!

  • The right heart my ass

Mussolini was a dictator who murdered those who opposed him. He used violence to come to power, and once there he took away the democratic system of voting so he could stay in power. He took over Ethiopia for his own benefit and joined Hitler in WW2. He also indoctrinated the public with propaganda, further benefiting his reign.

  • Nah. A good leader should represent the peoples opinions.

Benito Mussolini did not represent the peoples opinions, in fact he even silenced those who disagreed with him. Those opposed to him would be tied to trees and forced to eat a live frog or toad, and he even sent around 4,000 to jail for going against his beliefs. In my opinion, no, he was a pretty bad leader.

  • Fuck no !

He was terrible A fascist totalitarianistic leader who shushed people with opposing views. IS this enough? He attempted to take over countries but was brutally beat. One of the countries who beat him was Greece, and they were one of the reasons we won the war. Oh, and also, he fought on Hitler's side in the war
