• The Communist philosophy has murdered an estimated 150 million people in the 20th century alone.

The Soviet Union appears to be the greatest mega-murderer of all, killing almost 61,000,000 people. Stalin himself is responsible for almost 43,000,000 of these killings. Communist China, up until 1987, but mainly from 1949 through the cultural revolution (which alone may have seen over 1,000,000 murdered) is the second worst mega-murderer.

  • Of course it was!

The Communist philosophy has literally murdered an estimated 150 million people in the 20th century alone. How many more bodies do you need to determine that Communism is the greatest evil that has ever befallen the human race? Do we need more purges and pogroms? How about death camps, slave labour and killing fields?

  • "The Focus of Evil in the Modern World."

The Communists are against freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, the right to bear arms, the right to freedom of religion, and just about every other human right there is. They have killed more people than Hitler did. Communism is evil and should be wiped off the face of the planet as a great evil, the same way Nazism was.

  • Communism Is Simply A Group Dictatorship

In communism you sacrifice your freedom to be ruled by the almighty government. The government bosses the state and it values production. Although there is no private ownership but the government seems to own everything. There are no class systems but clearly there is a ruling class. The government takes the goods you have produced to sell to other countries whist you have no choice but to produce them. In communism if everybody is equal, why is there money, why is there a ruling class, why do people get sentenced to prison?

  • Yes, of course

Unless you think 80 million to 150 million people killed is a great achievement for communism, you can't really say it worked out that well. Say what you want about capitalist countries, but were anywhere near that many people killed by capitalists? Nope. Communism oppressed freedom of speech, religion, and the press, built cults of personality around their leaders, and almost led the world to destruction. Of course it didn't work!

  • Communism does not work. Period

Name one country where communism has worked. NONE, why? Simply, its a flawed system, an utopia, that only leads to mass murders, divergence, dictatorships and more. Every country where this system has been imposed gets ripped apart, this type of government takes advantage of the poor who want a better life by brainwashing them and promising things they cannot and should not give. I speak from experience, my country right now its being destroyed by communism, our economy is horrendous, we can hardly find basic things like toilet paper, milk, meat... , lack of law enforcement everywhere, you can never go out and not be worried that someone might kill you. We get power outs every day and the government always claims its sabotage, that's another characteristics of a Communist government, nothing its their fault, not the lack of safety, not the lack of food, the high inflation, they always blame it on the opposition. To cut story short, communism destroys countries based on an ideology that can never happen as long as we live on earth

  • Communism is Impossible

Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world that we can predict. Communism thrives off of the belief that a perfect leader can lead a perfect group of people to all help each other and work off of each others empathy. Capitalism thrives off of change which is superior.

  • Inherent materialism contrary to the true nature of man

People become communists because they are evil materialists just dying to steal from others, murder their opponents and the unborn and generally blame others for their own profound inadequacies. As a materialist belief system they may not point to their claimed but dubious theoretical merits. Communism is what communism has done and will do, largely murder.

  • Are you guys serious?!

Of course it's bad, what's wrong with you? I constantly hear the following: "Oh, well REAL Communism has never been practiced..."--get a load of this: "...Because it's was taken over by dictators that were not faithful to the Communist Ethos." Oh, please, so by sheer happenstance every single Communist nation was corrupted by dictators? By shear chance? Really? Or could it be that since Communism gives too much power to the State, too much power to one party, too much power to one man that it is always bound to fail horrendously?
This is inherent in Communism, you can't avoid it. The State controls everything, of course it will end up as a dictatorship. This is true with Fascism, National Socialism, Absolute Monarchy, Military Junta. Ask your brain this: Why isn't anybody trying to revive Fascism? Couldn't I just as easily say that REAL Fascism was never really practice since it was hijacked by the likes of Hitler and Mussolini? That it had honorable goals? Hey everybody let's elect a new Fuehrer and see what happens. Of course not. Anybody with more common sense than God gave a goose knows that this is a made recipe for disaster.
Oh, and keep in mind that Communism has failed! Soviet Union has gone the way of the Dodo, along with it's satellite states. Cuba and North Korea are hell holes. China and Vietnam have morphed into some sort of Commi-Capitalist society as a way to survive and thrive, they would have never, ever allowed this during the days of Mao. About the only people espousing Communism today are University Professors or University Students. Oh, brother it's amazing how the communist protagonists spout the benefits of communism from the outside looking in as they enjoy and live off of the inventions of individuals who didn't espouse the freak show of this religion of collectivism. It is convenient to promote this social homogenization when you aren't actually living in the totalitarian "utopia". Full of high sounding ideas.
Ask you brain this further: Do you know any West Berliner who risked razor sharp barbed wire fencing and guards armed with snipers to flee to East Berlin? Or do you know any Cuban living in Miami who McGyver'd a rickety boat and risked drowning and sharks to escape for a better life in Cuba? Or do you possibly know a South Korean so eager to flee to North Korea to were he/she risked an arduous thousand mile trek from S/E Asia, through China to get to the proletariat paradise that is North Korea? No? Me neither.

  • The thing is, we can't say, because true communism has never been used.

All forms of communism have at least been corrupted in some way, from marxist-lennism, to maoism. Take a look at North Korea, or China. Their people are starving, even though communism should prevent that. Communism in its purist form could work, but would likely be corrupted the same way it always has.

  • People get communism all wrong

Communism was meant to be a utopia. The idea of communism doesn't have anything to do with restricting your freedoms of speech, religion etc. Communism was a way to make everybody equal, a way to make sure everybody had food, education, and shelter. But in order to do this, the government has to have a lot of power since it's the one that is distributing all these goods and money, and usually it doesn't work out since people are selfish, and people like Stalin just take for themselves. That's not true communism. People take advantage of communism, but communism itself is not bad. It is perfection.

  • In Russia, It Was Terrible...

But that was because of corruption in the political system, Stalin abused the system, he used it to get revenge on people he disliked, and that was everybody, but if it had been allowed to grow past the period of uncertainty, it would have made Russia into a fruitful and pleasant country, with everyone caring for each other, and finally peace.

  • Why the ideas of Karl Marx are more relevant than ever in the 21st century

The Social-Economic theory put forth by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the Communist Manifesto has never been put in place by any country. As noted, Russia, China, North Korea, etc. had/have corrupted forms of communism.
In the social-economic system put forth by Marx and Engels, you do not give up your right to freedom, speech, religion, or to bear arms.
More people have been murdered in the name of Christianity than by Hitler, or any Communists.
Who defines “evil?” To me, the most evil word ever created by man is “God.”
As far as people starving, there are people starving in our Republic and other Democracies too.
There are 16.7 million children under 18 in the USA that live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. There were 74 million under the age of 18 in the USA according to the 2010 Census. So, about 23% of those under 18 are not feed properly in the USA.
There are about 30 million people in China starving, mostly children. The population of China is 1.3 billion people. So, that is about 2%. Even if you say only 750 million are children, it is still only 4%. So, from 19% to 21% more people are starving in the USA than China. But, that is not totally fair; most of the population in China lives in rural farm areas.
“Agriculture is a vital industry in China, employing over 300 million farmers. China ranks first in worldwide farm output, primarily producing rice, wheat, potatoes, sorghum, peanuts, tea, millet, barley, cotton, oilseed, pork, and fish.”
So, there are almost more people employed in farming in China than the total population of the USA, which was 315 million.
India is the World’s largest democracy and a capitalist country. It has a population of about 1.25 Billion. About 25 million children suffer from malnutrition and starvation in India. Even, if we assume that half the 1.25 billion total population or 625 million are children, that is only 4% of the children are suffering from malnutrition versus 23 % in the USA. Like America, India has a Plutocracy that controls, receives, and owns most of the wealth, while the workers get screwed.
Here is a reality check for all you folks. Capitalism cannot work given the world population of about 7.1 Billion people. The only systems that will work are those based on socialism–communism as envisioned by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels where the entire world’s resources join together to feed over 900 million people in the world that are undernourished.

  • It's not; what makes it bad is the faults in human nature

If know the basics, the bare bones; its actuarial a very beautiful idea. That everyone, no matter what; is equal to one another. That no one should be treated differently because of the race, sex, culture etc. Isn't that what people are striving for even now, in a 'better' system with Gay marriage? If people would just take a look step back and push away the historical dictators, mass murders etc. I think many people would actuarial like the philosophy.

The reason it fails, is nothing to do with the system. The reason it fails is because humility is inherently flawed; we are vicious, wrathful, greedy individuals who only seek self betterment at the expense of others. We are a disgusting species on the whole, look at the world we've created; do you think we've created something worth keeping? That is why communism fails, a system which tries to bring the best out of humans, has only gone against human nature and suffered the consequences.

So philosophically no, but in practicality yes

  • Incorrect Perception of Truth

Communism is not against freedom of speech it is the belief that everyone is equal and should be free to pursue their wishes as long as they do not harm others as opposed to capitalism which places some above others and causes poverty. Essentially communism is an impossible dream to create utopia.

  • Right System, Wrong Leader

The system was meant to be ruled by the proletariat (working class), not a crazy or greedy leader. I'm speaking of Marxist-Leninism in particular. If the country had a sound minded leader, that was willing to listen to the working class, then it would be one of the best systems out there. As for why many people cringe at the word "communist" or "communism", well, that's because past leaders ruined the name be imposing their own form of dictatorship, which resulted in the death of thousands.

  • True Communism Vs Reality of Communism

Communism isn't a bad system. It was perceived wrongly especially in the Cold War.
Firstly, let's talk about the philosophy of communism. The general idea was that it was an utopian belief. It stated that it created a classless society, meaning that everyone was equal economically, socially, and racially. It distributed the wealth at an even level where everyone benefited. Now, that's the philosophical idea. No let's talk about the realty and actual truth. It failed. It didn't meet the philosophical side because it was the leaders that warped the idea of communism. They were all under dictatorships and abused the idea. For example, stalin purged political rivals to stay within power like Trotsky after the 1917 revolution. Lenin knew that Stalin would not be elected and rather Trotsky. He was assassinated in exile in Mexico by order. Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia and started a genocide that killed two to three million people. Such as these people took the wrong philosophy of communism. Even the West thought it was bad. It was fabricated by these Communist dictators to start. Therefore, communism wasn't/isn't a bad system of society

  • Humans are imperfect.

The only reason Communism is failing is because how greedy, and selfish humans are. It is in our nature to take advantages of others. All the so called communist countries are not really communist. Communist requires no government at all. So China, and all the places that called themselves communist are truly not, for they all have dictators. If people could manage to put aside their greed and selfishness that would be wonderful. But of course that will not happen.

  • Good Idea on Paper, but poor execution by the Russians

Absence of social classes, money, and the state. Essentially they wanted a society that was equal. They wanted to rid their society of greed and unbalance. The idea of a communist society is a rather noble goal on paper. However it is viewed poorly due to Russia's sub-par attempt at it. It was poorly executed, mainly due to the fact that they executed those who did not believe in the communist way.
