  • He made Rock'n'Roll mainstream and opened the doors for black artists

Elvis changed everything in the fifties - the music, fashion, teenagers attitudes. He fused country and r'n'b to make rockabilly, which then became rock and roll. He was the first to actually MOVE to the music, and did so naturally, nobody taught him. Before then singers were rigid in front of the mike.

When he walked into the Sun Studio in 1954 he told the receptionist "I'd don't sing like nobody". Truest words ever spoken, Elvis was an original.

Elvis loved and sang all types of music, but for his contribution to rock and roll he deserves the title of King.

  • They Call Him The King For A Reason

Yes, Elvis Presley is the King of Rock n Roll. Everyone knows this. Elvis was huge in his time and his influence on that genre of music can still be seen today. There will never be another Elvis and he meant a lot to Rock n Roll. He is the king.

  • Yes and no

During his time he was the King, but he is no longer the King. Other artists have removed him from his "throne." Musical trends change too frequently now for any one artist to "stay in power" for very long. This is the difference in these two eras. There isn't really one king. It is more like several artists that most people know of and like.

  • Who else could hold the crown but Elvis

Elvis was initially called the "Atomic powered singer" in the early-mid 1950s. However once Elvis (in 1956) became the greatest album, and 45 single, recording artist of all time he was dubbed "the king of rock and roll".
Initially, Elvis was called "the king of rock and roll" by a radio announcer in Abilene, Texas. This was repeated by Hedda Hopper (she was the queen of newspaper articles about stars), Milton Berle, and (of course) by Colonel Parker.
The name stuck, year after year, as Elvis' continued his dominance not only in album/record sales but in TV appearances (record number of viewers and % of viewing public), hollywood movies, concert appearances and in (authorized and black market) Elvis "items" (such as; hats, bracelets, perfume, shoes, and almost everything you could imagine).
Lastly, there is no legitimate debate that Elvis (visually) was one handsome man and during his prime (1955-1959 and then 1967-1971) there wasn't anyone who could compare to him, then or now, in; looks, entertainment, style, uniqueness, or talent.

  • Yes yes he was

You guys just be hatin' because he was more popular than you have ever been. He was the king of rock n roll and no one has evem come cleos to his level of fame. He loved his fans and would do anything for them. He made rock n roll comtry amd gusple . No. He was and still unique and the king of rock and roll so deal with it. He got more swag than you'll ever have.

  • There were better, and more popular people before him.

Elvis was very popular and a good musician, but he did not write all of the stuff he was known for. But, people before him were more popular created, and changed the popular music from jazz, or blues, to rock. For example, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, lil richard, and Robert Johnson.

  • Chuck Berry-true pioneer of music

Elvis-A successful cover artist who rose to fame because he white. He has no credentials except that he was a hit-maker. That should NOT be the basis of being named the King of a genre of music. He was a success and talented but he did not contribute to rock roots as much as Chuck Berry.

  • Not the king

Rock and roll has come a long way since Elvis was crowned. I could make arguments for a dozen others before I'd make one for Elvis. Dint get me wrong, he crushed it for a while there and has some classic rock and roll stories to his name but I'm not even sure he'd make it on the rock mt Rushmore m

  • Elvis is not the king.

Although he did pioneer the genre, rock has changed so drastically within the years after his time that Elvis even has a hard time being considered rock. Lest we forget, for him to be "the king" he has to be the king NOW. Henry the third of England WAS the king. He is not now. Elvis WAS the king. To say he is now is preposterous. Many who listens to rock would agree.

  • You can't be serious...

Elvis was just a mediocre singer that couldn't dance. Swiveling your hips alone is NOT dancing and that is all he could do well. His music was neither original nor unique. It sounds the same as all the other music within the genre during his time. Elvis was definitely not a musical genius. Just imagine if Elvis was Hispanic, Asian or African American with the same skill set. Then you will have your answer.

  • No, Elvis was not the "King of Rock 'n' Roll"

It is a matter of personal opinion. Rock 'n' roll has such a diverse definition, many different labels are considered rock 'n' roll but sound entirely different than the music performed by Elvis. So, saying that a single person was the king of a very large and very diverse field of music is asinine.

  • No

Elvis was called the King of Rock and Roll at the time, but it was mostly because he had no competition for the title. Since then, there have been many singers and bands who are even better than Elvis. I would argue that the bands that rocked during the 1970s were among the kings.

  • The only reason elvis is king of rock n roll

Elvis is to me is not that good the only reason he is king of rock n roll is because he is white if he was black they will not be looking at him like that. Elvis did not create are write any songs he took credit for music that he did not write and got his dances move from jackie wilson the people act like this man was so good but i dont think he was all that

  • Fats is King of Rock and Roll

The piano made Rock and Roll what it was in the beginning. Elvis
didn't play the piano well. So other had to help him create Rock and
Roll. Fats Domino only needed his piano and his voice and he created pure Rock and Roll. Rock and Roll was Rhythm and blues on steroids.

  • Elvis was the Justin Bieber/Taylor Swift of his day...

...But he was the ONLY pop artist at that time. I don't Like Swift and I don't like Bieber...But you cannot deny the record sales and merchandise sales those 2 have right now! They are HUGE!!! Elvis was in the same boat in the late 1950's and early 1960's with one exception, he was the first and only Pop type Artist when that term didn't exist...With huge merchandising deals and no competition to speak of.

Like most of the white pop stars today, he took Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, and traditional music, re-packaged it, and sold it to the masses of white fans who were, in those days, the dominant record buyers. In the late 1960's, scores of British artists did the same exact thing...Probably even sold more records then Elvis had...But Elvis did it first, thus the KING of Rock n' Roll title is placed upon him.

Was there better music in Elvis' day, SURE! Just like there is better music then Bieber or Swift today...But Record and Merchandise sales would suggest Elvis WAS the KING.
