Given the sheer size of the books and how beloved the Harry Potter series is, the films have done a good job of bringing them to the screen. From the casting to the screenplay, most of the films, including Azkaban were well received and did good box office. I'm not sure I'd call it great, but it was definitely good.
Yes, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was a great film. It was the first great Harry Potter movie. The cast really started to come into their own and learn their own talents, and it was the first film that really paced well and made sense story wise. It didn't really follow to book to a T, but that's what made it better than its two predecessors.
