People in this day and age should not be worried about lesbians and gayness on television. We see it around us everyday. The fanatic religious people better get new ideas and new views about sex. This is a new revolution and it has been opened to the world. Nobody cares these days.
When Ellen came out on TV she did so both on her sitcom and on a talk show, and both instances were very important. When she came out on her sitcom, it pretty much ended the sitcom (it was canceled a season after), but it paved the way for so many.
Yes I think it was appropriate for her to come out as a lesbian on television, because it lets her fan base know exactly what she believes in, so they can form a closer relationship with her. Also if she feels like her audience needs to know than she can.
Given that Ellen DeGeneres has spent pretty much he entire career on television I believe revealing her coming out on television was probably the best platform for her to use. I think she is a great role model for young people and those in the LGBT community. There was nothing wrong with her decision.
Yes, it was appropriate for Ellen DeGeneres to come out as a lesbian on television, because it was a lot better than rumors being spread. Ellen took a big risk and it paid off, because most people accepted her. She was popular before and she was popular after. It made her happy and people supported her.
