Lincoln had a vision for this country and wanted to free blacks and give them rights. The radical Republicans were the ones who wanted to control the South and loot them for their resources. They were racists, and while they may have been against slavery, they certainly were not against racism and had no problem driving Native Americans off their lands.
Yes, I believe Lincoln was a "good guy". He took action to hold the United States of America together when it was on the verge of falling apart. We would not have survived long as two separate countries and I think Lincoln knew that. He made the best decisions he could with the situations he was forced into and I think he always had good intentions in mind.
