  • Macedonia was a Greek kingdom for the reasons below.

-spoke greek not bulgarian like the people of vardarska
-believed in the greek gods not in slavic paganism
-took part in Olympic games (only greeks were allowed to participate)
-they were a doric greek tribe (same tribe as the spartans)
-considered themselves as Heracledes (sons of Heracles exactly like the spartans did)
-Their leaders came from Greek Argos, thats the reason why they were called Argead Dynasty
-Slavs came 1000 years after alexander's death
-in the first balkan war (1912) the ottoman commander of the ottoman turkish army in thessaloniki was surrounder by the greek troops in the west and the bulgar troops in the east
both bulgaria and greece wanted the city
the commander knowing that it is impossible to defend anymore laid down the arms and the ottoman flag and said
i give this land to greece because we took it FROM YOU
then he said thessalonika is lost (from the ottoman empire) but thessalonika is saved (because if he didn't give the city to us and kept fighting the greek and bulgarian army would have destroyed the city

It is said that when he (Alexander) took his seat for the first time under the golden canopy on the royal throne, Demaratus the Corinthian, a well-meaning man and a friend of Alexander's, as he had been of Alexander's father, burst into tears, as old men will, and declared that those Hellenes (Greeks) were deprived of great pleasure who had died before seeing Alexander seated on the throne of Dareius.

    {Plutarch, Alexander 37.6-7}

  • No, that's not historically accurate

The ancient Macedonians were ethnically distinct from the Hellenes. They probably had a different language as well. However, they were probably culturally similar to Greece, or at least on the level of the aristocracy. The nobility may've spoken Greek, seeing how Greece was the center of high civilization in that part of the world. Post-Alexander, the distinction between the Macedonians and the Greeks was probably lost. Of course, the people of the modern day Federal Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) are ethnic Slavs, having migrated into the region during the Middle Ages or even maybe as late as the early modern age, and a such they are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians. The "Macedonian" language is probably just a dialect or an offshoot of Bulgarian, and the name for their country may've originated from geography, as in their modern country being located where the ancient Macedonia once was. This is perhaps similar to how the modern "Britain" comes from the Roman "Brittania", even though the modern descendants of the ancient Britons are not the dominant ethnicity in that part of the world.

  • Macedonia was a separate polity

The questions seems to suggest with "Greek kingdom" that debate is about whether or not Macedonia was part of Greece. In that sense, your average history book will tell you that they were different places. If you took a test asking where Alexander the Great was from, and you said "Greece" while "Macedonia" was also a choice, you would be wrong. Clearly there was a lot of influence from Greece, so in that sense it could have been called a Greek kingdom, but it was not a Greek city-state the way other Greek polities were, such as Athens, Corinth, etc.

  • Modern Greeks are a failed German experiment

King Otto of Bavaria. End of story. He was shocked that a goat herding village of Athens speaking mainly Albanian of 2000 people was his non Greek romanticised inheritance. Of course this had to change and a mass process of hellenization began. Which still haunts you today. As you have no connection to ancients but are Muppet Perri dish malfunction.

But even if the modern Macedonians aren't "real" Macedonians, so what? Why's it matter? Shouldn't your country be flattered that they decided to name their country after you?
Swagnarok says2018-01-15T20:02:35.347
They can't steal credit for the achievements of Alexander the Great, or claim that at one point their country had conquered yours, as long as everyone understands the distinction between ancient and modern Macedonia.

No swagnarok they can't be called macedonia first of all because they aren't macedonians they are bulgarians
second along with the name they try to steal the history
and third they want to steal our land too
we cannot accept it
maybe the goverment will but we as a people will never accept it
HellenicPatriot says2018-01-18T19:42:19.593
Now you know that macedonia is greek
will you change your answer from no to yes?

The Site won't let me. Sorry.

I'm not sure what you mean by "steal your land" . Do you mean to suggest that the 2 million Macedonian (Bulgarian) peoples are "stealing" Greek land by refusing to all leave the country where they've been living for centuries, or that they'd like to use the claim to the name Macedonia to one day seize and annex the modern Greek region known as Macedonia?

The slavs aren't native. They try to
1)appear native
2)take northern greece

the bulgarians say they are thracians and macedonians
the vardarskans (bulgarians of skopje) say they are macedonians
the albanians say that they are illyrians and also (say that the epirotans who are also greek they say they are albanians)
basicly they try to appear native instead of invaders
and then also steal greek epirus macedonia and thrace.
