Was Mount Rushmore a waste of taxpayer money?

Asked by: Babeslayer
  • Only if it was paid for by taxpayers.

At the time when it was made it was a waste, in my personal opinion. As the years has gone on however, it has definitely paid for itself. There is nothing dumber, once again my opinion, than the faces of former presidents on a mountain. But hey if that's the only way to get people to go to S. Dakota, then so be it.

  • Mount Rushmore is important.

    Mount Rushmore is important.
I don’t think that Mount Rushmore was a waste of taxpayer money. Mount Rushmore is a symbol of national
pride. It is no different from the
Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower.
Symbols like these make us proud of our country and bring in money via
    tourism.

  • No, Mount Rushmore was not a waste of taxpayer money.

No, Mount Rushmore was not a waste of taxpayer money. For one, Mount Rushmore was privately funded. Donations were taken, and it was paid for that way. Secondly, even if it WAS paid for by taxpayers, it has been consistently generating a whole lot of tourism dollars and attracting people from all over the nation and world.
