Yes it was inappropriate for Obama to call Kamala Harris the best looking attorney general in the country. However I don't think it is that big of a deal either. While not appropriate it should be noted and then we move on. Hopefully he will simply learn from the mistake that he made.
Yes Obama was wrong for calling Kamala Harris the best looking attorney general in the country. It is sexist (a little bit, but still sexist). That comment also takes away from what she has accomplished in her career and as a person. It's not that big of a deal, but that simple phrase was uncalled for.
Obama's remarks concerning Kamala Harris' looks were inappropriate because they gave more credence that female professionals should be judged about their body appearance in ways that men hardly have to deal with. Such remarks reorient people's focus from a woman's achievements in her career and put them on whether she looks acceptable or not.
First of all, saying that is very unprofessional, and the president should speak in a professional manner. In a typical business setting, he probably would be charged with sexual harassment or something ridiculous like that. It is a shame that the president does not take his job seriously and in a professional manner.
""Obama's remarks concerning Kamala Harris' looks were inappropriate because they gave more credence that female professionals should be judged about their body appearance in ways that men hardly have to deal with. Obama complimented her, he never gave credence to the fact that "Female Professionals should be judged by their looks". Just being attorney general is hard, and maybe her good looks did help her, but they are not the only reason she has made it that far. She's worked hard to get to this point and he never implied that it was because of her looks that she made it this far. Had he said that Eric Holder was a good looking man, two thing would have happened. First, it would be laughed at as a silly remark (aka a Biden) and not even been considered innapropriate and the right wing pundits would have made him out to be closeted (more so than before). The selective outrage has to stop if we are to consider such comments innapropriate.
Obama was not wrong for calling Kamala Harris 'the best-looking attorney general in the country.' He is the President and he should be allowed to say things without being criticized about them. It shows that the President has a sense of humor and is able to take things lightly and joke about them.
Yes, Obama is wrong for calling Kamala Harris, the best looking attorney general in the country, because he is demonstrating sexism in the workplace. Obama is objectifying Ms. Harris based on her appearance, but also commending on all of the appearances of the other attorneys general. He is setting a terrible example for employee relationships in this country.
I do not believe Obama was wrong in calling Kamala Harris "the best-looking attorney general in the country?" I don't see a problem with spreading a little flattery. I don't think anything bad was meant by the statement and I don't think it's something that people should be taking offense to.
I believe into days society people are so worried about political correctness we can not even have sincere conversations. He was just joking around, but people think that since he is the president he is degrading women. Personally I am not fond of Obama, but anyone who has to use the argument that Obama is a bad president because he said Kamala Harris is "the best-looking attorney general in the country" is insane. People should be arguing over real issues not who Obama thinks looks good.
