World War II was a good time for women because it was the first opportunity that they had to get a working career. This ability to do something that they liked for a living instead of being a housewife improved the quality of life for many women. It also gave the financial freedom to leave a bad husband.
War is never a good time for anyone, perhaps maybe war profiteers. Women, who did not fight on the frontlines in WW2, at least not in the US military, still faced hardships, both physical and mental, at home, or in the various military hospitals throughout the war, so while they typically didn't face violence, they still faced hardships.
