I have lived for significant amounts of time in both urban and rural areas, and have always preferred the city. I like the convenience of having a metro system, stores within walking distance and being close to work. When I lived in a rural area I hated that every time I forgot one thing at the store I had to drive a half hour each way and burn lots of gas to pick it up.
Urban settings are nice for culture and restaurants, but awful for crime, drugs and suffering. Rural settings are idyllic for wide open spaces, not a lot of people and the rat race of big cities is almost non-existent. With many jobs and money-making opportunities online, more and more people can move to rural settings more quickly and earlier in their lives.
