    He should have picked Thune. Thune's window of national electoral opportunity is closing. Although Thune is boring and comes from a small state that has no electoral influence, Thune wouldn't have created a ripple like Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan did with the Ryan budget and his economic beliefs. Yes, Thune is seen as a empty suit and too safe, almost so unsafe that he won't harm the ticket, he would have likely played well with some independents, his good looks, and conservative look may have put some Midwestern states in play than Ryan did (Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio).
