This regime is particularly violent and wants to quash all dissent. Based on the images and reports of violence we are already seeing, there is good reason to believe that -- assuming they have the capabilities -- they would not hesitate to use lethal chemical weapons if they finally felt threatened enough.
Yes I think it is very likely that Syria will in fact use the chemical weapons they have against their own people. I heard on the news that everything is ready to go for their attack. They are planning on using sarin gas, which is what Sadaam used against his people in the early 80's. It's terrible and deadly.
This is something we need to keep a close eye on to make sure things remain as stable as possible in that part of the world.
The Syrian regime is in turmoil and we need to make sure nothing tragic happens there to the best of our abilities, we need to partner with our allies like Israel to keep things under control and peaceful.
Syria is already feeling the breath of the International community on the back of its neck, and the use of chemical weapons would send NATO or the US crashing down on them. Assad is far from being desperate enough to use chemical weapons, as his regime is faring pretty well in the war. To me, the claim that the regime might use chemical weapons seems like Western Propaganda used to garner public support for military intervention.
If the Syrian regime were to use chemical weapons they would instantly lose what little diplomatic support they have left and international intervention by NATO or the UN would be almost certain. The entire international community would come down on Syria assuring its collapse and either death or prosecution of war crime for its leaders.
