Will the U.S. government's inabillity to reach a sequester deal have a devastating impact on the U.S. economy?

  • If it continues for a long period of time it could definitely be a problem

The US economy and its stock market doesn't look good when it can't even reach a deal. Why would investors and businesses outside of our country want to deal with us if we can't deal with ourselves? We all need to get on the same page in this country financially. Start helping each other out more, stop being greedy, and make this place great again.

  • Yes. It will affect some areas more than others.

Living near a military base the predominant source of local jobs are either government or retail. I know several people that are being furloughed and their work week reduced by a day. For those already on a tight budget it will just get tighter. This also causes a reduction in Military training and military spending in the local area.

That is just one small area that this will effect. There are hundreds of programs that will be affected as well.

  • Yes, If It Is Prolonged

If the sequester is dragged out over months, it will certainly be a problem. Money not flowing into the economy always poses a problem and may cause the economy to shrink. If the sequester is short lived, then the damage done will be short lived as politicians try to reach a bipartisan deal.

Sequestration is just a political game. It promises a deficit reduction of $86 billion. That sounds good, except the 2012 deficit was $1.5 TRILLION. Sequestration doesn't help or hurt. It's just a political game. However, the fact that the government can't even reduce the deficit by $86 billion voluntarily shows how far gone our country has gone.
