Wind energy: Do wind turbines have a negligible impact on birds?

  • Yes, few birds are hurt.

Yes, wind turbines have a negligible impact on birds, because very few birds are hurt. There is always some kind of impact with any kind of human living a life. Even building a log cabin back in the day had some impact on some trees and some local rabbits. But for what is to be gained, wind turbines are worth it.

  • Turbines don't hurt birds.

Is it probable that some birds will fly into wind turbines? Of course. Any time you have a free-flying airborne agent around, a couple of them are going to meet an unfortunate end at the rotors of this technology. But there is no evidence to support that turbines are going to doom entire species of birds or even decimate local population. A few dead birds are statistically irrelevant.
