Let's be honest here, folks. Sanctions are just pointless. They first of all target the people of Iran and not the government itself. If Iran really cared enough about its people to give up its program, it would have done so. Therefore, the Iranian people are the ones suffering. Moving on from this, the economic pressure so to speak is not even as crippling as people like Marco Rubio or the idiots on the other side will tell you. Yes, the EU and US sanctions hurt. Boo Hoo. Iran still has trading partners such as China and Russia. They mine from the Strait of Hormuz, which has the largest amount of oil and petroleum in the ocean. A resource, many countries are not willing to forget upon just because Uncle Sam says so. Hence, sanctions aren't stopping nuclear enrichment, we've just slowed it down and pissed them off. In conclusion, sanctions are stupid, pointless, and inhumane.
It would be beneficial to the global community for the United States to abandon sanctions on Iran and open diplomatic relations because Iran is not a threat to the United States and therefore should not be sanctioned. The global community would benefit if the U.S. opened diplomatic relations because they would be allowed to open trade and have access to resources from Iran which may stimulate the international economy.
It would be beneficial to the global community for the United States to abandon sanctions on Iran and open diplomatic relations. There is nothing to be lost by at least attempting to speak and mediate with Iran's government. If we did we might get somewhere with them. Although it might be uncomfortable at first, it is possible we could get them to change some of their more negative policies.
Given Iran's history I do not believe we are in the right place to abandon sanctions on Iran and open diplomatic relations, but I do believe we are headed in that direction. Overall, when this becomes a possibility I think it will be beneficial to the global community because it will be the addition of another upstanding nation.
The United States and Iran have been on bad terms for to long. With their new leader I believe that Iran can become a more forward thinking nation towards the rest of the world. With opening sanctions, we can help bring the middle east together and possibly more of the world.
There is often confusion in the belief that dialogue and diplomacy is better than any alternative, but it is always based upon a presumption of reciprocity and valid representation. Negotiation with Iran is to presume that unelected dignitaries will work in the bets interest of both nations towards a resolution (and due to the selection process of Iranian PMs, that is what they are, unelected.) We cannot negotiate diplomatically with those who do not truly speak for nor are accountable to the people of their state.
