Would raising the minimum wage save taxpayers money?

  • Government should stop subsidising firms that make Multimillions. By topping up low wages with tax credits.

If the minimum wage was set at a more realistic level. It would reduce the level of tax credits that made up low wages. How can the current minimum wage be set so low.On one hand the government say this is the minimum we need to live. On the second hand they realise It's not enough so make up with tax credits. Why are they subsidising firms that are making multi-million pounds ? I understand small businesses may need this low minimum wage.Perhaps a two tier system would work for small businesses..This could save the country millions. And improve the life of the working men and women.
After all the firms make money from the blood and sweat of its workers......

  • Raising the minimum wage would not save taxpayers money.

The minimum wage has nothing to do with taxes. If companies have to pay their workers more, it would not effect how much people have to pay in taxes. The two issues are not related. Perhaps workers would have to pay more income taxes if they make more money, but the minumum wage would not effect taxes in any significant way.
