Would the world be a more peaceful place if there was only one religion?

  • World would be more peaceful

Ii think world would be more peaceful if religion would not be there because now a days in name of religion there are many people who are setting up disputes . As a examples we can take India only there are many political party who are a great reason for disputes I think if all there things are going on in name of religion then it would be better if there would be no religion Atleast in this world there would be no cause of conflit because of religion and no religion would be insluted

  • Yes, if it is possible.

Because since there are more options it leads to many difference of opinion. If there is only one best religion there will be no second thought about God. To find the best religion we may consider the good works which are contributed by the divine institutions and organizations. Peace we want.

  • One religion one belief

If everyone was one religion then racism levels would drop because although you could still discriminate against ethnicity you couldn't make fun of other peoples religions because it would be pointless. Also terrorism and events such as the 9 11 wouldn't happen and no inter religion crimes e.g. Americans burning the Qur'an all because there is just one religion. However religious disputes can also happen within a religion as beliefs vary for example some Christians believe God controls the world and everything happens at gods will but most Christians nowadays believe that god created life and in a manner of speaking told us to 'get on with it'

  • Religion called YOU

If everyone would believe that your world arises from you. You literally attract towards yourself everything that come to you. The attitudes of others towards you are a reflection of you. Those you like and those you dislike are mirrors of your own positive and negative traits. If everyone would grasp this "religion", belief system or way of thinking - then we will all realise that to fix what's happening out there, YOU have to fix YOU. It all starts with man/woman in the mirror.

  • Yes but impossible

The only fair way for there to be one religion in this world is to have no religion at all. If you think in a broader sense, even atheism is a distorted form of religion (minus spirituality and supernatural but still is a belief system). Then the big question is; What would be this new No-Religion be about? It neither supports theism, atheism nor even totemism, paradoxically mind-blowing... One thing for sure we will all feel insecure and alone where the only thing to bind us together will be ethnicity which will cause racial tensions and eventually leads to war (but it's too distant to be related to your question)

Real Peace will only come when there is only a single ideology (hive mindset) shared among everyone.

Big question is, are you willing to forgo your religion? Even if you consciously would, sub-consciously you couldn't...

  • One less thing to fight about

There are too many religions. Religions are created by man at different times and places. Throughout history, there have been far too many wars between followers of one religion and another, for example the Crusades. There are even wars within sects of the same religion e.g. as in Iraq, say. It's not absolutely certain that one world religion will create peace and harmony, but it's worth a try.

  • But not freedom.

The world would all believe in the same God, and therefore all would have the same beliefs, but no doubt it would create a lack of mental freedom. If we all believed in the same thing, we'd all be drained of our individuality, what makes us who we are. So yes, there would be less war, and maybe even less diplomatic and economic tension, but should this be what it's about? I'd rather live in a world where there's an eternal world war, but everybody has their own thoughts.

  • Religion brings differences. Countries have borders.

I wish there could be one religion and one country for the world. No more war and families would not lose their loved ones. I know this will not happen because of the reasons below.

It all starts with people being honest and contributing to the betterment of the society. Love each other and respect everybody. But do you think this is practical? We have differences within the circle that we know. That's why humans prefer nuclear families. So how can we all be together? Having differences is in our DNA.

Religion is a belief and is very important to lead a religious life as it makes individual more disciplined and there are many things which can't be answered. It also gives us support to lead life positively. I would prefer to have a religion but has to be only one religion.

  • For me its yes

I think that if we have only one religion in our country or in our world we can more get to know each other and we can easily express our self, our emotion, and our beliefs to other people. If we have only one God no one is more secure than the one who held in God’s hands. Safety is not found in the absence of danger but in the presence of God in our life. Behind every event, God has a purpose. At times, we consider a trial is simply his permission to rearrange our lives to be more meaningful. For me our lord Jesus Christ is still more powerful God than the other Gods of other religions.

  • Religion alone doesn't bring peace to a society, because there will always be disagreements within the religion.

The goal of Islam is to unite the world into one religion. Followers say that, once the planet has entered the house of Islam, there would be a Utopian peace for all mankind. However, among the nations that are already in the house of Islam, there is no peace. Instead, we find violent hatred and constant fear among the various factions and ethnicities in those nations. One has only to watch the world news any given week to see the atrocities that Muslims commit against each other to see that a one world religion would bring no peace.

  • The world would be at war if there was only one religion, because people can't agree on everything.

People have differences of opinion in just about everything they do. So to have only one religion would complicate matters, unless the people were so indoctrinated that they were trained to accept only one religion. I don't think this is a possibility. If there was only one religion, people would be constantly fighting each other, because there would always be someone who disagreed with the principles of that religion. It is often religious beliefs that are the main causes of wars.

  • No, the world would not be a more peaceful place if there was only one religion because people would find something else to fight over.

While there would be fewer wars about religion, there would just be more wars about race, nationality or other such divisions. Organized religions can cause a lot of problems, often acting like a second form of government within a country that can direct their followers to do what ever they want. Religion however is not the only reasons for conflict, not even the most popular one. As long as there is such a thing as hunger, greed and jealously there will always be war.

  • The world would not be a more peaceful place if there was one religion because people would disagree over something else.

One religion would not bring about a more peaceful place because people would find something else to fight about. Issues to fight about could become as simple as misinterpretations over the writings in the particular religion's holy book.

  • Having only one religion would not make the world anymore peaceful in my opinion.

There are problems and violence between members of the same religion so having a worldwide religion would not solve anything. Religous person should practice tolerance and acceptance of all religions not just their own beliefs. Afterall, as long as people respect each other and believe there is a higher power greater than themselves, the name of this higher power is not really the issue.

  • No, not necessarily.

If there were only one religion, and that religion wasn't a peaceful religion than there would be no peace in the world. The existence of different religions teaches us to be tolerant of each other's opinions and right to free will. With only one religion this could possibly be a lesson that goes unlearned. In this type of society, with one religion, there might be individuals who deviate from the religion and become outcasts and are treated like so. This would not be my idea of a peaceful society. Having just one religion does not ensure peace for all. Besides, human nature will always be there to disrupt that peace.

  • No, how about if there were no religion? Then maybe there would finally be peace.

The idea of one religion is no more comforting than many religions. I'd prefer no religion. Then maybe there would be peace as people would use their intelligence to solve problems, use a view that all humans are important and worth caring for rather than just those of my religion. There will never be one religion, there would always be people who didn't adhere to this religion, and I'm sure there would be violence against them.

  • The world would be a more peaceful place if each religion kept to itself.

We can see that a fair amount of the trouble in the world is caused by people attempting to propagate their religion, if they were to cease these acts, then perhaps people of differing religions could exist side by side, and worship as they like.

  • The world would not be a more peaceful place if there was only one religion.

There are many different religions in this world today that some may feel should not be. However, there are also may arguments and disagreements within the same religion. There are some Christians who believe in gay marriage and some who do not. There are some Christians who believe in divorce and some who do not. Even though these are the same religious base there are differences between them. If the world only had one religion I would think that would make it even less peaceful. As human beings we are never going to agree 100% of the time it is just not in our nature. The best we can do is believe in what we believe in and allow others to do the same.

  • Religion is not the only thing people disagree on, not all wars and problems are caused by religion problems.

Take this example: two guys go to church, after mass is over, the crowd exits the church, the two guys get into their cars, and one crashes the other one. What happens? One guy yells at the other one and they start fighting. Religion is not everything. Wars have been taking place mostly because of power and riches, that's not going to change if there's only one religion. The difference between the rich and the poor is the cause of all our problems.

If there was only one religion (assuming 100% uniformity) in the world, DDO wouldn't exist.
