  • Religion is the root cause of war

Throughout history, the root cause of many wars has been disagreement over religion. Whole nations throughout the centuries have been torn apart by religious debate and it is still happening now. Without religion, there would have been no 9/11 and no holocaust during the second world war. Millions of deaths could have been prevented in a religion free society.

  • A refutation of the "No's".

The running theme of the opposing parties seems to be that, without religion, and by proxy God, there would be no morals. This is indicative of the belief of moral absolutism, more popularly known as objective morality.

I don't believe that I have to explain how inherently flawed this stance is, but, oh well.

Objective morality is false, because not everyone has the same morals. If there was a moral absolute, why are those supposed absolutes constantly violated? It makes very little sense. The morals of a deranged, psychopathic murderer differ greatly from the altruistic, vegan, Greenpeace pacifist. Morality is all a matter of opinion; hardly anyone follows a strictly similar moral code.

With this in mind, the morality argument for religion is rendered void. Religion is a detriment to a progressive society and scientific inquiry, and has done little to provide any progress in the realm of morality, subjective or otherwise.

  • Religion is the cause of many deaths.

Many wars were conducted in the name of Religion. Religion is actually telling many lies about questions that aren't completely answered by science. The most stupid thing about this is that the Religions are fighting mutual. But the biggest problem are the lies. Lying creates a lot of problems. Religious Lies cause discrimination against... Almost everybody for example homosexual persons. Religion is a very BAD thing because it lies very often.

  • Yes - without religion, so many fights would stop

I am not, and have never been a religious person, and I personally think that religion causes more problems than not. Think back to how many types of people are hated, because God supposedly said that they should be, how many people have lost their lives because of people killing in the name of Allah. People should have faith if they choose to, yes, but in practical things, or themselves, rather than imaginary deities that have never told them anything first hand.

  • Absolutely as we are smart enough to build our own moralities and without religion our moralities wouldnt be so different and opposing.

Do you think religion gives people answers that science cant answer like the person to my right who said no? Lmao every religion has different opposing answers to important questions like what are we? Free will or no free will. What are we in relation to each other? Equal or not not to mention on the clock what are we in relation to each other which will determine what we can do and say to each other. Why are we here? Which will determine what you should be doing with your life. And what should the top priorities of a morality be? Like preventing pain suffering and misery or promoting human happiness. These questions determine our morality and everyone has different answers thx to these questions causing most of the conflict in the world not to mention it causes immorality because the good parts of conventional morality are discredited with the bad parts leaving some completely immoral. Not to mention the churches of the world have opposed almost every moral progress in the world like every improvement in humane feeling, every improvement in criminal law, every mitigation of slavery or step towards the better treatment of colored races, the diminution of war, and need i continue? Religion doesnt give you the answers to my questions it just keeps you from asking these questions smart one. Lol i wish i had your intelligence level. Life would be simpler.

  • Yes because it has taken a position opposite science

As a word, religion is the assembled folklore, mysticism, medicine, pyschology and mores of A given culture. The great hall of the wisest of the wise. But a wise person looks directly, with clear eyes, at what is true. When religion became something where the words and deeds of people long dead became more truth than the evidence before us, religion became the enemy of peace, life, and truth. But only a fool woulf discount all the knowledge of his ancestors. Many truths yet remain nestled in the worlds religions, waiting for us to calm down and observe better.

  • Science can be observed, god or gods can not

It is because of science that in the developed world people can live for over a century, why you (probably) have a phone, and it's why this website even exists. It is because of religion that you have holy wars, churches not paying taxes unlike everyone else, and according to you a forgiving and loving god, which will punish you for all eternity if you do not believe he exists. Or if you're gay, that too.
There's a reason most people don't say "I believe in science". It's because it isnt something to believe in, it's something you can observe, and prove, using evidence and logic. The only proof there is for the existence of god(s) is a bunch of ancient books, which display no evidence for a god other than "There is a god", and were supposed to take said book's word for it.

  • Religion hinders our progress as human beings

To the people that say religion explains stuff that science cant. First of all it does not do this, it provides no evidence for anything but just a made up story, and if this is your reason for believing religion than be ready to see that religion is a hoax. Science is continuously uncovering unknowns and provides evidence when it does so. Science is also not bias where as religion hinders the progress of knowledge. Science is not afraid to change when they find more information, religion sticks to the same old story that nobody can prove. I don't think it's a problem to believe in a god, but it is a problem to believe in a religion. I have heard some religious people say there's no reason to make effort to take care of this world because when they die they are going to a better place (heaven). This seems so counter productive. But if you were to not believe in this, you would want to make the world the best possible because it's the only life and world we have. This also applies to those religious people who will commit terrible crimes but if they confess and repent they will be saved. We need to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do, not in fear of god. Religions divide people, we are all humans and we need to stick together. I'm not saying religious people are bad, their are good and bad apples. But to progress as humans I think we can be rid of the old fashioned religious beliefs, it's doing more harm then good.

  • Absolutely Yes, duh

There will be some downside to it (like higher suicide rates, and maybe more depression,...) but the fact that you need an imaginary deity to keep you happy and moral, that is kinda brainwashing. I would rather live in the world where the truth is accepted and realize how cruel life and the world actually is rather than believing in some fairy tales and live in fake happiness, fake world.

  • Atheists wouldn't understand.

In response to war arguments: war is not inherently bad; if we did all we could to avoid war, we'd end up with a tyrant. In response to all arguments stating anything relating to the fact that humanity is creating its own morals, laws, etc.: that simply isn't true; god created those morals.

  • we need it

Religion is good for giving people answers to things that science can't answer. Religion calms people down & gives people hope. For some it gives them purpose, for others it brings them company.
For many people religion brings structure, order & control. But sometimes this gets out of hand & leads to the problems you describe.

  • No, the world would not be better off without religion.

No, the world would not be better off without religion. Religion helps to keep the people of the world moral and honest. Without religion society would deteriorate and good, appropriate behavior would be eroded. Many great nations have religious foundations that help to keep their citizens doing the right thing.

  • The beauty of variety's

I find it amazing to see all these different types of beliefs and the different places they are located in and the different way the go through with it. It is human nature to start wars, but religious nature to love each other and be in peace. Yes it is a reason there are wars but it is the people that started it, not the religion. Take the religion out of the world and you take out the beauty of variety.

  • You want a world without religion, you'll get one

Ever since the beginning of time, we humans have tried to either discard or match God. The real reason why none of you want religion is because you don't want to have anything to fear, to respect. During the period between 3BC and now, there have been 1,793 wars. 123 of these however have been religion based. So what does that tells us. We are selfish and our human evil ways have lead us to conflict each other. Another reason why people don't want there to be religion is because they are afraid of heaven and hell. They don't want to be punished for all the sins they've committed. However, for Christians repentance gives you a clean slate before God, which was only made possible by our Lord Jesus Christ. Many say that religion causes more trouble than help. However, Christians have contributed many gains for humanity. (Beginning of hospitals, racial freedom, helping refugees during the holocaust). In conclusion, the world is not better of without religion and when the end times come at which many will be taken to heaven, you will get your world without heaven and I promise you, you will not like it.

  • The World Would Soon Create Religion

No, the world would not be better off without religion. Even if we didn’t have religion, the world would soon create a religion, as to explain the things science can’t. As said above, religion brings structure, and comfort to people’s lives. Without this structure, the world would be a mess, and no one would know where to start to create this structure.

  • Its a part of our own lives

Religion is a huge part of culture and family and who we are as people. It is apart of our families, our history, our everyday lives and it’s something that many people hold on to and it means a great deal to many, it gives us something to believe in and someone to look to in times of trouble. Without it, lives would change and almost fall apart which is why we need it.
