Would you pay for citizenship of another country?

Asked by: Lannox
  • I'd pay for citizenship of another country if I were stateless or if from a country which get major trouble travelling internationally

Rich investors are sometimes offered the option of making an investment in a country, in return for citizenship of that country. A sovereign state has the freedom to choose who it allows to become citizens and under what conditions. It also has the right to ensure that the citizens which it chooses are going to benefit it somehow. Where you are born should not determine your entire life. In this time of global citizenship, people should be able to make such choices as country of citizenship. Although paying for citizenship discriminates against the poor who cannot afford, i still believe between a country and potential investors who would like to be citizens of a such country, this is acceptable.
