Would you rather let 1000s of people die than allow scientists to research in editing (changing) nature to speed up the growth of plants?

I believe it is unfair that some people who did nothing wrong are born in places like Syria or any majorly poor African village. They don't choose where they are born. If we could invent or mutate a plant so it grows 2-5 times faster we would stop famine across the world. Just think about people who die who did nothing wrong.

Now think if we could also mutate plants to grow better or faster in other planets we will not have an issue getting food when/if we colonise a planet in space.
