National Board of Review Best Movies of the 1980s

The 1980s brought blockbusters front and center. The Star Wars franchise and the Indiana Jones movies paved the way for the grand scale movies we enjoy today. This decade also introduced the ever popular horror movies, like Nightmare on Elm Street, and their accompanying numerous sequels. The most profound movies of the 80s were dramas, especially historical dramas such as Sophie’s Choice, Gandhi, and The Color Purple. The National Board of Review considers the following movies to be the best movie of each year in the 1980s.
