    For reading, the United States came 36th in the world, as compared to the United Kingdom, which came 26th. For Maths, the United States came 28th, in contrast to the United Kingdom (20th). Finally, for science, the United States came 24th, and was slightly pipped by the United Kingdom, which came 23rd.
