Global warming is likely (and mostly) anthropogenic

(Voting Period) This is for Subutai's environmental tournament.

In this debate, I am for the resolution. The BOP will be even since this is a contested issue--BOP shall not be negotiated.

The debate structure is first round acceptance, second round arguments (no rebuttals), third round rebuttals/defense, fourth round rebuttals/defense.

My opponent is familiar with the wording, and definitions are not needed.

Have fun!

There is a biological cause to homosexuality

(Post Voting Period) Resolution: homosexuality is mostly caused by biological factors

The reason "mostly" was selected is because all behaviors have some genetic impact, even if its small.

Definitions:
Homosexuality - in this case, a human being sexually attracted to those of the same sex
Biological - in this debate, biological will be defined as genetics ("gay-gene"), hormones (a second theory which I call the hormone hypothesis argues hormones in the womb cause SSA), and brain differences (see LeVay 1991 for details).
SSA - same sex [sexual] attraction

Don't change or use definitions in your argunment. Don't didley with the resolution or definitions in the debate, however you can ask for a change in the comments.

Rules :

Round one acceptance (contender only , I have to do all this)
No semantics
Drops = concession
forfeits = loss

Taking a Stand Against Climate Change with Greener Technologies

(Post Voting Period) If you were born after February 1985, [1] you have never experienced a colder than average month. This, coupled with obvious decrease in Arctic, Antarctic, and Greenland ice sheets is a frightening sight. [2]

It may seem obvious to most that this is a terrible thing, as sea levels rise and weather patterns change, we could be in a peck of trouble. However, there are always those who believe that Climate Change is just a hoax, thought up by Liberal politicians and science advocates. To them, I say, "Nay!" for you would be incorrect. In the last years, climate change is beginning to gain conclusive evidence to support it's existence.

As the world becomes less of what it was a century ago, we must adopt new technologies and policies to save our Blue Planet and the beautiful life that exists on it (because, hey. No where else have we found life.).

This is our home, and even if it means sacrificing a little of our hard-earned cash to save it, we must do eve

America should become a Social Democracy

(Post Voting Period) Social Democracy - a country that democratically achieves socialist goals within a Capitalist framework through a strong welfare state and the regulation of private industry.
Should - ought to
become - I define this contextually
America - The United States of America
Let me clarify a few points. Firstly, socialism has been given a bad name by the USSR. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics wasn't just socialist, it was a communist country. While all communists are also socialists, not all socialists are communists. Social Democracy is a moderate ideology, between Capitalism on the right, and Communism on the left. It's ends and means are democratic, gradual, and economically feasible. If people want it they can give birth to it at the ballot box, and if it eventually no longer suits them, they can kill it at the ballot box.

A Social Democracy guarantees access to certain basic necessities of modern life. For instance, a Social Democracy guarantees un

Gay Marriage

(Post Voting Period) I will be challenging 16kadams to a debate on Gay Marriage. I will be arguing for gay marriage, on the Pro side.

I will be arguing that Marriage rights should be given to Homosexuals, but that parenthood should be defined as being between one Man and one Woman, one Father and one Mother, in line with nature. I will be arguing that Marriage is a concept thought up by humans, that marriage is both a religious act and a legal contract, but that it is not a natural act, as parenthood is.

So my side is, legalize gay marriage as there is nothing "unnatural" about gay marriage, as marriage was invented by humans, but that parenthood be defined as being between one Man and one Woman, meaning gay people cannot adopt, because children need both a Mother and a Father for a stable environment to grow up in.

I look forward to this debate with 16kadams. Good luck!

Napoleon v. Washington

(Post Voting Period) time: 1812

(Yes I know Washington was not in control then).

I argue if there was a war AT THIS TIME in the US (assuming Washington controlled the military) would win.

Factors taken out:

Britain is not in the US at this time, ignore that war. We are assuming instead Napoleon was the invader of 1812 instead.

No semantics trolling etc. 1st round acceptance. I argue Washington wins.

Indian Politicians are pigs and bureaucrats are their bitches

(Post Voting Period) Looking at the current state of Indian politics & society as a whole, anyone will be agree with the analogy of 'Animal Farm'.
Indian politicians with criminal backgrounds & fake educational qualifications rule the country. They have loyal bureaucrats at their disposal who are always ready to fulfill the wishes of politicians.
These pigs & bitches together rule the herd called common man who is the ultimate victim of such majoritarian democratic system.

Gay Marriage

(Post Voting Period) Homosexuals, like heterosexuals, neither chose their sexual orientation, nor should they be denied the same legal rights heterosexuals enjoy simply because they were born different from what is considered "the norm." Every respectable scientific organization in the world, including the American Psychological Association, says that sexual orientation is connected to biological factors and cannot be changed.

Just as it is wrong to deny legal rights to blacks, women, and people born left-handed, so too is wrong to deny gay couples the legal equality and benefits that come with marriage.

Opponents of gay rights are quick to point out how the Bible says homosexuality is "an abomination." However, in the time the Bible was written, an abomination simply meant "out of the ordinary." Since the Bible does not clearly condemn homosexuality, it cannot logically be used as a weapon against gays.

Even IF the Bible did condemn homosexuality, gays would still be e

(Post Voting Period) <div>I will be debating 16kadams again on the subject of Gay Marriage. My opponent had time constraints last time, and so it ended in a tie. Hopefully this debate will turn out better.<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Resolved: The US should legalize marriage amongst homosexuals.</strong></span><br /><br />Current definition of Marriage according to US law: [1]"The legal union of one man and one woman."<br /><br />I argue that this definition should be redefined to include same sex couples. My opponent must show me why I am wrong.<br /><br />Rules: Round 1 is acceptance and definitions. If there is anything else my opponent wishes me to define or to clarify, he can do so in his acceptance post. Rounds 2 and 3 are for arguments and the final round is for final rebuttals and closing statements. <br /><br /> To clarify, we are arguing solely about SSM in view of the law.<br /><br />I very much look forward to this debate with 16kadams!

abortion right or wrong

(Post Voting Period) Nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester, when a fetus cannot exist independent of the mother. As it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb.

The concept of person hood is different from the concept of human life. Human life occurs at conception, but fertilized eggs used for in vitro fertilization are also human lives and those not implanted are routinely thrown away. Is this murder, and if not, then how is abortion murder?

Adoption is not an alternative to abortion, because it remains the woman's choice whether or not to give her child up for adoption. Statistics show that very few women who give birth choose to give up their babies - less than 3% of white unmarried women and less than 2% of black unmarried women.

Abortion is a safe medical procedure. The vast majority of women - 88% - who have an abortion do

The death penalty Deters crime and saves lives

(Post Voting Period) This debate does not have the acceptance rule:

C1: Deters crime

Ernest Van Den Haag, PhD, late Professor of Jurisprudence at Fordham University, in an Oct. 17, 1983 New York Times Op-Ed article titled "For the Death Penalty," wrote the following:
"Common sense, lately bolstered by statistics, tells us that the death penalty will deter murder, if anything can. People fear nothing more than death. Therefore, nothing will deter a criminal more than the fear of death. Death is final. But where there is life there is hope... Wherefore, life in prison is less feared. Murderers clearly prefer it to execution -- otherwise, they would not try to be sentenced to life in prison instead of death. (Only an infinitesimal percentage of murderers are suicidal.) Therefore, a life sentence must be less deterrent than a death sentence. And we must execute murderers as long as it is merely possible that their execution protects citizens from future murder."
