Single Payer Health Care:

Single-payer national health insurance is a system in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health financing, but delivery of care remains largely private. Under a single-payer system, all Americans would be covered for all medically necessary services, including: doctor, hospital, preventive, long-term care, mental health, reproductive health care, dental, vision, prescription drug and medical supply costs. Patients would regain free choice of doctor and hospital, and doctors would regain autonomy over patient care.

Socialized Medicine:

Socialized medicine is a system in which doctors and hospitals work for and draw salaries from the government.

Improved Medicare for All:

A health care system in which one payer (the government) funds all medically necessary procedures with a single insurance pool. Financed through a combination of payroll taxes and income taxes, or other methods. Equal access to coverage and patients have free choice of doctor.

To start, I think it's best we lay down some framework and rules for this debate.

****FRAMEWORK****

1. This is a tournament debate, so it goes without saying that both debaters will be polite and cordial in the coming clash of words, to the best of their own abilities!

2. This debate is based on the concepts and ideas shared by two televisions shows. Both debaters will prove why they think their show specifically is better than their opponents shows. We will be using reasons on concepts, and Ideas, to prove why one show is more interesting than the other, etc.

This debate is on the progressive tax on individual citizens. I am Pro. The rich should pay more of their share of income than the middle class and poor. You can make moral, economic, or other arguments.

In this debate, I will focus on Pro - Progressive Income Tax that is fair and has no loopholes.

Plus, do not introduce any new arguments in the third round. First round is acceptance.

The Rich Should Take a Hike

The resolution is that the wealthy should take a hike in taxes. I will be advocating for an expiration of the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, or additional taxation of the wealthy on top of that. I support ending nearly all the tax loopholes and deductions, but that will not likely be a large point in this debate.

Personal Retirement Accounts: Basically indivividual or jointly owned (say by married couples) accounts in which the owners save money to invest in various securities as they wish.

Entitlements: The social welfare programs ran by the federal government including Medicare, and Social Security. Mostly financed by payroll taxes.
