Abortion is Immoral --- Tournament Debate, round 1

(Post Voting Period) Resolved: Abortion is Immoral.

MasterKage is Pro. He believes abortion is immoral, wrong, should not be done. He can make exceptions for rape and incest if he chooses, but the point is that abortion itself is a wrong thing, from the moment of conception. He doesn't have to argue that abortion should be illegal, but he should argue that it is immoral.

Pro has the burden of proof.

Wiploc is Con. His personal opinion is that abortion is good; lots of people should abort. Requiring abortions is as bad as forbidding abortions.

This is a three round debate, sort of. There are four rounds, but Con initiated and won't argue in this first round. Pro will argue first, starting in this first round. In the fourth and final round, Pro will not argue.

Thus, Pro will argue first, and Con will argue last. Like so,

Round 1: Con does not argue; Pro's first argument.
Round 2: Con's first argument; Pro's second argument.
Round 3: Con's second argument; P

Best Song From A Rock Band

(Post Voting Period) So, I got the idea for this debate from F-16. So, essentially you choose one band and state a quick acceptance post in this first round, but both me and my opponent are confined to rock bands.

You can post a lyric sample and/or a description of the song, but it is not required.

I choose System of a Down.

Capital punishment in Texas is unjust

(Post Voting Period) Resolved: Capital punishment in Texas is unjust.
I affirm this resolution.

My value for this debate will be morality.

My criterion for this debate will be the amount of innocent executed, and the amount of guilty executed.

"It is becoming increasingly evident that those who are leery of the death penalty have reason for skepticism."

I will now present some definitions for clarity.
Please note all definitions will be cited from dictionary.com.
Capital punishment is defined as punishment by death for a crime; death penalty.
Unjust is defined as not just; lacking in justice or fairness.

Contention 1: Texas executes the innocent.

-The death penalty is riddled with errors, leading to the execution of innocents.

Events of the past year have convinced us that the defendants have been executed on the basis of invalid evidence.
The fact that we convicted people based on faulty evidence-that we have executed the innocent.
The high number of dea

Marijuana ought to be legalized

(Post Voting Period) I will be using the L-D format of debating in this debate.

Resolved:Marijuana ought to be legalized. I affirm this resolution.

My value for this debate is freedom.

My criterion for this debate is the various positive physical and mental effects of long term use of marijuana.

I will now present some definitions to further allow understanding of the debate.
Please note, all my definitions are cited from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary.

The definition of marijuana is the dried leaves and flowering tops of the pistillate hemp plant that yield THC and are smoked in cigarettes for their intoxicating effect.

My first contention is that of supporters of medical marijuana.

Supporters of medical marijuana state that it can be an effective and safe treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, gluacoma, epilepsy, and various other medical conditions.

My second contention is that of wartime use of marijuana.

It is improper to assume the state of existence of God.

(Post Voting Period)
First off, it is not my purpose to offend anyone or their beliefs.

In the theological debates I have read on DDO so far, when the two participants have drastically differing beliefs the common pattern seems to be for one participant’s beliefs to be assumed as true and the other participant receives the BOP. Unless this is the explicit topic of debate (e.g. “God exists”), it would make more sense for conflicting beliefs to be considered equally likely until a claim is made and then for the one making the initial assertion to accept the BOP.
An abstract generalization is quite different from a concrete application, however. So, I issue the following (hopefully contentious) challenge!

I am an atheist. I completely deny the existence of any god, supernatural phenomena, spirits, souls, an afterlife, ect.

Therefore, I challenge my opponent to show why you should not have to accept t

I Will Lose this Debate

(Post Voting Period) This is a bit of an unconventional debate.

I am predicting that I will lose this debate.

Losing is defined by getting less points from voters. The standard DDO definition of winning and losing.

If I am correct in my prediction that I will lose this debate, I win this debate.

I am also going to be very specific about my opponent's argument.

My opponent, Con, must argue that I will either win this debate or that this debate will be a tie.

This is the only way that Con is allowed to approach this debate. Ther

If Con is successful in his or her prediction that I will win this debate or that it will be a tie, then he or she will win this debate.

Debaters that have not been online for two or more years should be deleted. The debaters will, most likely, never come back after the two years.
