The Normative Contingency Thesis (NCT) is a compelling objection to Moral Realism.

(Post Voting Period)
I've finally decided to open this up to any and all challengers. Everyone knows me, my argument, and my method. All that's missing is someone to take up the fight. As a consequence of this openness, Con may begin presenting arguments for realism/against the NCT in Round 1, or may choose merely to accept and defer argumentation until Round 2. I leave that decision to my opponent, who may not be penalized for opting to argue in R1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEjgPh4SEmU

The Normative Contingency Thesis, or NCT, can be explored in some of my previous debates on moral realism [http://www.debate.org/debates/Infinite-Regress-disproves-Moral-Realism/1/] [http://www.debate.org/debates/There-is-no-compelling-reason-to-believe-that-objective-moral-facts-exist./1/]; however, I will formulate it briefly here:

<span style="font-family: times new roman,t

The Non-Aggression Principle Is a Flawed Moral Position

(Voting Period) Res: The Non-Aggression Principle Is a flawed moral position.

Non-Aggression Principle (NAP) - The idea that no matter how disgusting, immoral, or improper you believe an act to be, you have no right to use force to stop someone from committing that act, unless that act itself involves the initiation of force against another person (or person's property).

Round one is just for acceptance.

Equal Opportunity

(Post Voting Period)
Resolved: In the United States, all individuals have an equal opportunity to advance social class.

First round is for acceptance, clarification of terms, and other concerns.

It should be specified that this discussion will be on the topic of substantive liberties rather than formal liberties. Yes, all individuals under a capitalist system may be legally allowed to acquire capital but that is not the point of this debate. This debate will focus on the real life prospects of individuals born with different natural abilities.

It's time Mattel released a Barbie and Kim gift set

(Post Voting Period) A few years ago I bought my young niece a Barbie gift set. It cost over $100, but as the salesman explained, the price I paid was fair because it was a special "Divorced Barbie" gift set and the Barbie doll came complete with Ken's house, Ken's car and all Ken's money.

Now it appears that these estranged plastic partners have settled their differences and are, once again, all loved-up.

Of course, this is all just clever marketing on the part of their manufacturer, Mattel, who are cynically attempting to drum up extra sales and are, in the process, reinforcing the stereotypical notions of heterosexual romance that little girls are expected to conform to as they grow up. In so doing, Mattel is ignoring the fact that many females develop lesbian tendencies through puberty and beyond.

That's why I propose that Mattel should release a Barbie and Kim gift set and modify their website to include a

Tim Spin's Debate Tournament R1: Vegetarianism

(Post Voting Period)
Resolution: Vegetarianism is a more ethical diet than an carnivorous (or omnivorous) one for healthy adults in modern civilization.

By "modern civilization" I'm essentially referring to the fact that alternatives exist. We are not referring to a hunter-gatherer society where food is constantly scarce and man and beast are frequently pitted against each other in an evolutionary show down.

I will be taking the PRO stance and the burden of proof is squarely on me. First round is only for acceptance and definitional qualms from Con.

Additionally, although we'll try to make the debate quick as I am on a deadline - August 13th through August 20th I will have no internet access. I have made this clear and in the event that the debate does go overtime it will not count as a forfeit, but rather be continued when I come home. Regardless, I will try to respond quickly but thoroughly to meet the deadline.

Good lu

Altruism does not exist.

(Post Voting Period) Before accepting this debate, please read over the following notes.

My Position aims to attack not Altruism(The idea), but how we as human beings look at it(How we describe certain ideas as altruistic when in reality they are not). I believe Altruism does not exist in our Moral Society.

Definitions-

Exist- To occur

Altruism- The principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others

After the following rules and definitions are accepted, the first round will be for acceptance. This will be a 1 Round Debate (not including the first round), where I as Pro will State my case, then the negative will proceed to refute the arguments. IF the negative successfully refutes the arguments, they win (not just stating a case for why it exists, instead look towards why i am wrong) If any points are left up by the affirmative, or are not successfully refuted by the negative, then the affirmative wins.

Beauty is Objective

(Voting Period) This debate will focus on the two contentions I make below, centering on the question of whether or not beauty can be described as an objective quality. My opponents first round should consist of their acceptance of the debate, followed by a very brief outline of thier perspective. Subsequent to that, rounds 2, 3, and 4 should consist of a dialogue: I will present a case for each of my three contentions in round 2, my opponent will respond, I will respond to his response and so on. Round five should consist of final conclusions.

A clarification of terms:

By beauty, I am referring solely to the physical attractiveness of human beings as appreciated by other human beings. Other interpretations are welcome, particularly if they are used to make salient points, but it should be understood that this is not, at its core, a debate about beauty as an abstraction (even if it may turn out to be just that!)

By objective, I am not referring to a Platonic or otherw

Can We Be Good Without God

(Post Voting Period) 1. If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist.
2. Objective moral values and duties do exist.
C. Therefore God exists

We should first detail some definitions, starting with God which means an all powerful perfectly good creator of the world. By "objective" I mean independent of peoples opinion and by "subjective" I mean dependant on peoples opinions. By moral value I mean, the worth of a person or action, whether it is good or bad. When mentioning moral duty I am referring to our obligation to act in a certain way, whether that action is right or wrong.

For example it is good or bad no matter what people think about it, for instance the holocaust was wrong even if the Nazi's had won the war and brainwashed everyone to say the holocaust was right; it still would be wrong.

It is important at this point to show a distinction between values and duties, for example it would be good for one to become a cancer researcher but on
