That society ought to recognize animal rights

(Post Voting Period)
This is for the second official DDO Tournament, and this is the second round. It is a great honor to be debating Zaradi again, and to have this oppertunity to discuss this really important topic.

Once again I don't think either of us will really try to cheat with our definitions. "Society" is to be taken in the most general possible sense, so pointing out specific people who have better things to do than care about animal rights is not sufficient to carry the motion. Generally this motion is about whether animal rights should be recognised and not about who should recognise them. "Animal" shall include all members of the scientific animal kingdom except humans, who are presumed to have rights already. "Rights" "are entitlements (not) to perform certain actions, or (not) to be in certain states; or entitlements that others (not) perform certain actions or (not) be in certain states." (http

Humanity ought to allow animals access to basic rights.

(Post Voting Period) Someone call the presses! Zaradi's not making an LD debate!

Zaradi: Not exactly true, since this is basically the Sept/Oct resolution from last year but it won't be done in LD format.

Definitions:

Humanity - Fairly obvious.
Ought - a moral obligation to do something.
Animals - Non-human creatures (excluding insects and such)
Basic rights - Right to Life, right not to be treated inhumanly, etc.

Besides what consitutes "basic rights", all the definitions are fairly obvious. Semantics will thusly be met with an instant loss.

First Round acceptance. Second round cases. Third and fourth round rebuttals. No new arguments in the fourth round.

No going over the character limit (or 'glitching') will be allowed. Anyone convicted of it will auto-lose.

I await an opponent.

Starcraft 2 is a strategy-intensive computer game

(Post Voting Period)
Resolved:: Starcraft 2 is a strategy-intensive computer game.

While I don't believe Maikuru will run semantics on me, definitions are always good.

Starcraft 2: The PC game invented by Blizzard that involves three different races (terran, protoss, and zerg) and their battle for inter-stellar dominance. It functions under the genre of Real-time strategy.

strategy-intensive: requiring a lot of strategical thinking

computer game: oh f*ck off, we all know what a computer game is.

Anyway, as neither of us want a really long debate, the first round is acceptance here. Then comes cases. Then the last round is rebuttals to strictly your opponent's case and then your concluding statements. The Burden of Proof is split between the two of us.

I intend to show that Starcraft 2 is not a strategy-intensive game. My opponent wishes to show that it IS a strategy intensive game.

Individuals have a moral obligation to assist those in need.

(Post Voting Period)
Resolved: Individuals have a moral obligation to assist those in need.

Rules and Conditions:

1. This is the November/December topic for 2011 in LD. Thus, this will be treated as an LD debate.
2. Both traditional and progressive cases are allowed.
3. Cases are allowed to be posted in google documents if they exceed the 8000 character limit. All rebuttals must be inside the limit.
4. Forfeit means automatic loss, unless this rule is voided by the non-forfeiting debater.

Round structure:

Round One: Neg proposes debate, aff accepts and posts case.
Round Two: Neg posts case and rebuttal. Aff posts rebuttal.
Round Three: Neg posts rebuttal, aff posts last rebuttal.

Deviation from this round structure is automatic deduction of conduct point for one offense, automatic loss for two.
<br /

Should illiterate or uneducated people be allowed to vote?

(Post Voting Period) Uneducated or illiterate people should not be allowed to vote. To precisely define the term illiterate and uneducated allow me to clarify: Illiterate refers to the inability to read while uneducated refers to people that have not graduated high school. The logic behind this is to be directed towards an American legal viewpoint.

There are 3 arguments for this:

1. People that cannot read show an inability to make the right judgement because of their education.

2. Voting is to give the best for your country. To not be educated would pose a problem for this.

3. Voting is a priviledge given to those who want to make a positive impact for their country. Those who cannot even make a positive intellectual impact should not have this priviledge

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, It is not necessary to have a case with a value and value-criterion

(Post Voting Period)
This has become an annoying factor to most LD debates I do on here. I run a case that functions on something other than a value/criterion pair, and I will always hit this argument:

"LD is, over all, a value debate. Since my opponent doesn't have a value, he cannot win."

I find this claim to be of absolute lunacy, and I challenge those who hold this belief to debate me on this. First round is acceptance only. I will accept the burden of proof for this debate. All definitions will come in the next round from me.

1. Do not run semantical arguments. We all know exactly what the resolution entails.
2. If at any point a person forfeits a round, it should count as an automatic loss and all points go to the other debater.

He doesn't and I win.

The riddle is this:

There is a man dead in a locked office, sitting at his desk. On the desk there are a couple of pieces of blank paper, a pen and a sealed envelope. The office is locked from the inside. No-one has directly killed him.
Meaningful Rap Battle

(Post Voting Period)
As a poet in my spare time, there is something about meaningful raps that takes me me to an emotional high and low that the average person cannot experience. They blow my mind. I love them and want to share it with the world.

Time to see who knows the most meaningful ones and voters to vote as such.

Voters should vote on the meaning of the rap's lyrics not purely on flow and rhymes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRVOOwFNp5U

(Post Voting Period)
This debate is for 16k's debate tournament.

The resolution is as follows:

The united states should suspend all assistance to Pakistan

I will be affirming the resolution. Vmpire will be negating it.

Round structure is as thus:

1. Acceptance
2. Cases only
3-4. Rebuttals and defense

Some basic ground rules:

1. Dropped arguments = concessions
2.
(Post Voting Period) I've seen a few of these around before. Figured I could hold my own on a lot of things that could get thrown my way (barring whatever Imabench can pull out of his a.ss, that I might not be prepared for). Regardless, I will let my opponent pick the topic and the side they will be (pro or con) and I will debate as such.

Please keep the resolution all of these things.

Grammar makes little difference to a phrase's meaning and clarity

(Post Voting Period) I will be arguing pro, that correct grammar and spelling make little difference to a phrase's coherency. I will take the burden of proof in this debate.

Definitions:
1) Little - Small in size, amount, or degree (often used to convey an appealing diminutiveness or express an affectionate or condescending attitude). <--- in this case its definition will be that of its degree usage.

2) Meaning - What is meant by something.

3) Clarity - The quality of being clear, in particular. The quality of coherence and intelligibility.

Standard format:

1st - introductions

2nd - Pro=opening arguments / Con= opening arguments and rebuttal

3rd - Pro=rebuttal/closing arguments / Con = closing arguments ONLY

Good luck to my opponent!
Do you accept my terms?
