does history matter?

(Post Voting Period) History is a subject which has been made compulsory to be studied till the 10th grade.
why?
It doesn't benefit us unless we wish to pursue a career in archeology or its branches and the length of the lessons and forced question/ answers prove to be a pain rather than interesting. Students ahve to study it under compulsion and the ammount of quality time spent over this could be devoted to subjects with more priority like math and the sciences.
Hence i question, does history matter?

Life for humans would be somewhat safer if there was only peace, and no war

(Post Voting Period) The amount of harm done to humans would be slightly reduced, due to the fact that war would not exist. Therefore, the life of some humans, and therefore humans as a whole would be less likely to be in danger, and thus safer.
Sorry no room for Definitions
Can my opponent come up this some way to refute this?

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

(Post Voting Period) I challenge any one and everyone to a debate. The topic which we will be debating is 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. The only terms which I have are that the debate should stay on topic and that the debate should remain respectful. Apart from that there are no other terms. I also believe that if this debate doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger. I eagerly await my opponent

A virgin birth is impossible.

(Post Voting Period)
In this debate I will argue that the miracle birth of Jesus is impossible.

If a story contains contradictions it can be used as evidence to negate it.

A 'virgin birth" contradicts with what we now know about human biology.

If Mary was parthenogenesis, Jesus would have been female. All parthenogenesis produces females--biological fact.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenogenesis

I will also argue that the concept of a 'virgin birth' was copied from Pagan religions that were prevalant in Rome </sp

Non competitive school sports days

(Post Voting Period) Non competitive sports days are wrong. Why would you try and hide something like competitiveness from children when it is so important. Its like not letting them use books, or the internet. Its such a hugely powerful tool. I really wouldn't be surprised if in a few years our (British) Olympic athletes are just going to let the others win. However that's not the worst of it in the school that I'm in at the moment they have so called sports such as 'Olympic drama' and even let us use wii sports which I think is ridiculous. In secondary school you should not be hiding teens from competitiveness, people that are competitive get places in life. It's an absolute disgrace that is allowed, let alone encouraged!

Are humans designed to consume meat?

(Post Voting Period) This is my 1st debate on here so forgive any messy formate issues.

I have read over several other debates and I know I want a more 'formally' structured discussion. Not a just a conversation back-and-forth.

Topic: Are humans designed to consume meat?

I will argue the con viewpoint. Meaning, I will argue that humans were not biologically designed to consume meat.

I will ask that any arguments relating to the morality of eating meat be disregarded. This is not an ethics debate but rather scientific/evolutionary.

Rules:

1. The first round is for acceptance.
2. A forfeit or concession is not allowed.
3. No semantics, trolling, or lawyering.
4. Debate resolution, definitions, rules, and structure cannot be changed without asking in the comments before you post your round 1 argument. Debate resolution, definitions, rules, and structure cannot be changed from all moments after the debate has been formalized.
